Should download speed increase after fixing fault?

Hi, I'm helping a neighbour (another Plusnet customer) with intermittent connection drops. She is on unlimited fibre extra and used to get 60mbps down but is now getting around 12mbps down.

We think we've identified an issue with a telephone extension so we've physically disconnected that extension cable from the master socket & have had no disconnections since.

Would we expect the download speed to increase automatically? If so, how long should it take?
