Downstream sync speed

My downstream sync speed has dropped to 19.2mbps on fttc broadband. It has been at roughly this speed for about six days. My minimum guaranteed speed should be 29.2mbps. I had to unplug the router a couple of times last week, not sure if it’s a DLM issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @kidneybean1965 I'm sorry that you're seeing some slow speeds at the moment, that must be really annoying!

It looks like DLM has dropped it down, however the connection seems to be stable again, I've popped a DLM reset through for you and it should improve things over the next 24 hours for you.

I wonder how many people have a drop in sync speed and do not notice for a while?

My sync is 22Mbs and every now and again drops to 11.

A router rebbot usually fixes it but surely modern technology should be capable od correcting itself?

@TeeGee there is a technology known as SRA (seamless rate adaptation) although I've only seen it used on a G.fast connection.

I have waited a couple of days for the speed to improve, but unfortunately it has remained at 19.2mbps.

Thanks for letting us know, that could mean there's an issue with the socket, do you usually connect the router to it via a separate filter?

No the socket is an Openreach MK4. The engineer who fitted it said it does not require a separate filter. I have the router plugged into the test socket using a filter at the moment.

@kidneybean1965 It's possible that the modem resynced at the higher speed after moving the connection to the test socket. You will probably find that it will be the same if you put the faceplate back and connect using the built in filter. Give it a try.

If the speed drops there must be a problem with your master socket/faceplate.

I have replaced the face plate, as suggested by @RealAleMadrid (thanks) and the sync speed has remained at 40mbps. I will monitor it and report back if the speed drops again, might save the engineer a visit 🤞🏻

@kidneybean1965 That's looking good, no need for an engineer at the moment. The DLM reset should have caused a resync but sometimes it seems to get stuck and a manual resync sorts it out.

I can assure you that it does not work on VDSL at the MRKNU exchange. Speed dropped again today but not as much as previously. Upstream stays stable.

I'm replying because I CAN NOT FIND HOW TO POST. WHere is POST NEW THREAD?

I am having some kind of weird throttling maybe issue. Speed test is GOOD. 40MB/S. But downloads for critical updates from Ubuntu of 1/20 of that.
