! 21CN Broadband Outage (6 hours) 12/11/2010

For those that may not have seen the following on our Service Status pages.

Our suppliers are carrying out maintenance at one of their interconnect sites (Faraday). The work is being carried out to increase capacity and resilience and allow for more edge routers to be connected to the network.
Am I likely to notice the work?
There will be a complete service outage affecting parts of BT's 21CN broadband network that will last up to six hours. During this time customers affected by the work are likely to experience connectivity problems, data transfer issues and BT Wholesale branded landing pages when trying to access the Internet.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Any customers having problems connecting once the maintenance is complete are advised to switch off their broadband equipment for 30 minutes before powering it back up and attempting to reconnect.

Which parts - don't keep it a secret.
I have a question.
Will this mean that internet connectivity will be lost but that the router won't lose sync with the exchange

As far as I know BT Faraday is next to Blackfriars Station on the edge of the City (of London). Substantial parts of the 21CN network possibly pass through there on their way to the buildings where PN's edge routers are located.
My guess is that most users' routers will stay synced, but the PPP session will drop and as mentioned in the SS a BT Wholesale landing page might be shown (with 172.x.x.x IP allocated) when the router tries to reconnect.

myself and several other users were booted off IRC at 00:50, and returned about 7am

In case anyone is not aware of the service status warning there could be further outages on Monday morning midnight to 6AM. It appears 20CN could also be affected, however individual down-times should be limited to 2 hours.
