Hello,

I have been out of contract and paying around £57 a month for well over 1 year now, this is going up to over £60 from 31st March 2025.

I can sign up to a new 12 month contract for £26.99 a month but will be moving in the next 3 months, and cant afford to keep paying £60 a month.

I have read another thread on here that says "if you move we will cancel any termination fees if you sign up to a new contract in the new property" kind of thing.

Anyone clarify this is 100% accurate please?

I can sign up for another 12 months today, but when I move in 3 months (maximum), worried I will then get charged 9 months remaining at £26.99 a month = £242.91 early leaving charge.

Just can't afford to pay this preposterous £60 ooc monthly charge any longer.

Thank you.

I have read another thread on here that says "if you move we will cancel any termination fees if you sign up to a new contract in the new property" kind of thing.

Assuming that Plusnet service is available at the new property , then there are two options available on a house move, details are here https://www.plus.net/help/my-account/moving-home-or-office/#cost

1) Pay a house move charge of £65 and retain the existing contract. This requires that the same service can be provided at the new property. That will not be possible if you currently have a landline phone service.

2) Take out a new contract. No house move charge is applicable and any existing contract is wriiten off with no ETCs.

The person whose house we are moving into is also a Plusnet customer on the same package, their 18 month contract ends in June.

From what you say you simply sign up for a new contract and then arrange a house move at the appropriate time.

As far as I'm aware house moves are free but you are rquired the re-start your contract.

@andyt1970 Ok, so at the moment you have a PSTN landline phone service. Openreach have had a stop-sell on new PSTN phone products since Sept 2023. So if you change products or move house you will only be able to get a 'broadband only' service ( Fibre or Full Fibre ) from Plusnet.

At the moment it IS possible to recontract your existing service at your current address since Openreach do not see this as a 'new' PSTN service. When you move, you will either have to have no phone service or a digital voice(voip) service. Plusnet have decided not to provide a digital phone service so if you wanted that you would have to move to another supplier.

If you don't need the phone, then I'd suggest recontracting now on the Plusnet Fibre product, which is basically the same as you currently have but with no phone service. Then when you move you can simply recontract at the new address on the same service (or possibly Full fibre if that is available? )

What does the BTw checker https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome say for your current and new addresses ( post the details but redact any personal info e.g actual address )

Full fibre is not available at the current or new property.

WBC FTTC ( which is what you currently have i.e broadband and phone ) is not available (for new orders) at either the new or current.

WBC SoGEA ( broadband without phone ) the Plusnet product called Fibre is available at the new and current property. The speed estaimates at the new property are slightly down ( min guaranteed 60Mb as opposed to 65Mb ) at the new property.

If you don't use the phone, then as I said above, I'd recontract now on Fibre (it will save some considerable money!) and then restart a new contract on the same product when you move.

As far as I'm aware house moves are free if you sign (restart) a new contract.

You could phone the PlusNet Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632 to ask.

As stated, you will lose your landline when you move but, if not used, then you could sign up to "Fibre" which is internet only now so the transfer woud be straight forward.

MisterW said "If you don't need the phone, then I'd suggest recontracting now on the Plusnet Fibre product, which is basically the same as you currently have but with no phone service. Then when you move you can simply recontract at the new address on the same service (or possibly Full fibre if that is available? )", and later said "If you don't use the phone, then as I said above, I'd recontract now on Fibre (it will save some considerable money!) and then restart a new contract on the same product when you move."

Not quite understanding, sorry. So if I go ahead and renew on that "Upgrade to Fibre" Total monthly payment £22.99, from March 31st 2026 £25.99 24 month contract offer, I'm tied to 2 years obviously.

So say I leave here in 3 months, what do I do then in the house just moved in to? The person currently there whose contract runs out in June won't be there and obviously doesn't want to renew, so I assume they give their 30 days notice to end service, but I have to contact Plusnet saying I'm moving on to this property on this date (30 days before), and once in, I will sign up to a new 24 month contract in my name once I'm in and paying all the bills.

Are you sure there is no house move fee, and there will guaranteed not be any early termination fees (can't face being billed for 21 months if I sign up today, and will have only used 3 months).

My head is spinning

N.B. Even though we have a phone, we don't use it and haven't even touched it since managing to drop the calls package on this ooc plan, so won't need a phone and don't mind losing our telephone number. Same applies to the person whose house we are moving to.

The people who can answer your questions are COTs - you need to give them a phone.

Assuming the person in the new house is moving one would expect them to transfer their broadband to their new property or, at least, to cancel.

I still don't get the difference in the 24 month offer (highlighted in yellow box on the left hand side of the below printscreen), and the 24 month offer I changed it to - for comparison purposes - on the right hand side of the printscreen, other than the left hand side "Upgrade to Fibre" one doesn't include a landline / telephone service. Correct?!

Are you saying signing up for the left hand one is easier to "recontract" when we've moved to the new property as it doesn't include any landline / telephone service? Sorry again for not grasping this first time.

Thanks

P.S. I assume you still just plug the Plusnet router into the master BT phone socket, just means there's no telephone service? Doh

@ bmc Yes, they would be cancelling the service which runs out anyway in June

@andyt1970

Like most others on here I am not a staff member.

To get definitive answers you need to SPEAK to COTs.

It costs PN money to transfer your account which they recover over the life of a contract by getting a customer to agree a new one. The terms you are offered could be different at this time from what's on offer now but you just have to accept this if moving.

Ensure the owner of the property gives plenty of notice for the cancellation. You don't want to get caught out by the 10 day OFCOM mandated cooling off period between cancellation of a line and it being taken over (by you).
