But if it’s only a change in speed, I don’t see how that’d warrant a new contract as it’s the same service. I’ve reached out to Plusnet but thought I’d try my luck here in the mean time.

Thank you for the advice also. I run it through Deco XE75’s throughout the house that are 6E. It’s mostly for my PS5, phone and MacBook that are all Wi-Fi 6.

Hi,

I’m 12 months into a 24 months contract. I’ve been offered to upgrade from 500 to 900 for an extra £5 a month. I’ve read conflicting messages online where some say it’ll require a new contract, whereas some say my current contract will continue as normal.

Does anyone have a definite answer?

Many thanks.

Also, be aware that Wifi speeds will still be limited to around 450Mb unless you have a Wifi 6(or 7) capable router and client.

Note that the Plusnet Hub 2 is not Wifi 6 capable.

Only Plusnet can definitely confirm or not whether a re-contract is part of the offer, so I'm afraid you need to wait for a staff response.

Happy that you seem to have the Wifi speeds covered though.

When I upgraded from 500 to 900 (for a few ££ LESS than I was paying for 500!) it kicked off a new contract

@beeceegee that's what I would expect.

@loweandbehold

But if it’s only a change in speed, I don’t see how that’d warrant a new contract as it’s the same service.

Even though its only a change of speed, it still involves an order from Plusnet to Openreach for the new product. That in turn involves a commitment (by Plusnet) to Openreach's minimum term for that for that product and thus a corresponding commitment from the customer.

Ah, damn. Many thanks for confirming. I think I’ll leave it then, don’t want to trigger another twelve months.

Thanks everyone for your advice, much appreciated

The other question is - do you actually need the extra speed? Sounds good on paper but would it make any difference to your daily activities.
