Keeping PSTN when moving from FTTC to FTTP.

In an area where I have a Plusnet FTTC service, Openreach have just announced that they will be making FTTP available.

If I apply for a Plusnet FTTP service when it becomes available will I be able to keep the PSTN service for as long the PSTN exchange equipment is kept working ?

Preferably without paying an additional charge. LikeIy the phone would only be used in the event of a power cut.

I already have several VOIP services. I don’t care about the landline number.

@machare If you move to FTTP, the PSTN service will not be available - it is a totally different technology, and does not include a voice component, hence why when moving to it, people are advised to either get a VoIP service, or use mobiles.

@machare the ONLY way to retain a PSTN service is to keep your existing FTTC service.

it IS possible to order an FTTP service as a new account and retain the existing service. You would, of course, have to pay fro both services!

@machare I'd be VERY surprised if that's the case, I understood that on a Vodafone FTTP connection , the phone service is Digital Voice i.e voip

This would seem to confirm https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Landline/Simple-guide-to-connecting-a-phone-to-FTTP-please/td-p/2691976 and indicates that anything coming from VF support needs to be taken with a large 'pinch of salt' !!. That certainly reflects my dealings with VF in the past (albeit nothing to do with FTTP)

I don't see how Vodaphone can give you a PSTN connection - OR have a Stop / Sell order on new connections.

You can have two PN accounts if you're willing to pay the charges. The downsize is when you eventually close your first account you lose e-mail and any other add ons you may have - they are not transferrable to your new account.

Vodafone are an LLU supplier for their FTTC based products, so technically they can still supply an MPF based phone service. However they already have a Digital voice service and I can't see how they would provide anything other than that for an FTTP connection.

I have Vodafone FTTP via City Fibre and I took my landline number with me.

But, as others have said the phone is a digital service (SIP) delivered over fibre not copper.
