When an Internet Service Provider takes on a new customer they have certain fixed costs, eg work to be done by Openreach, the "free" router" etc.

To avoid hefty up front charges, these costs are passed on to the customer spread over the duration of the contract.

So for Plusnet to be able to viably offer a 12 month contract, it would have to be priced significantly higher per month for them to be able to recoup their costs over a shorter period of time.

That higher price may well be higher than competitors.

They may be able to offer a shorter contract at a higher price.

I wholeheartedly agree - 24month contracts are way too long.

Have you tried calling CS to ask if they will do shorter term contracts? - I had success with this a few years ago, but I am no longer with plusnet, if they do then expect prices to be a bit higher... but the whole idea of long contracts with huge hikes when you go out of contract is realIy just abusing (milking) the customers (treating them as cash cows) suspect the BT influence has a lot to do with current practices at BT, EE and plusnet.

If that is true, then after the contract has ended and Plusnet have recovered all of their initial outlay, why does the monthly price increase significantly?

(I know the answer is that they are trying to get as much money out of existing customers as possible, so that they can offer lower headline rates for new customers)

I may as well just go with Shell.
12 months for £26.99 then £43.
However next year it'll be black Friday again, so new deals.
