Twitter WordPress plugin Version 2.0

2008 at 18:21 by Kelly Dorset

This is released under the GPL v.2.

Description

Requirements

PHP Version 5 or later required.

This plugin requires cURL PHP library to be installed.

The plugin has been tested with WordPress 2.8.4

Download

Please download the zip file (239k) from the WordPress plugin site

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/twitter-feed/

Features

Admin Control Panel

The control functions such as connecting to a Twitter account and storing information on the tweets/blogs, can be accessed through the “Twitter Control” GUI in the WordPress admin panel.

Any changes in the currently active Twitter account tweets can be immediately updated by clicking on the “Update Blogs” button.

Order, Prioritisation and PM Filtering

The application will display the latest tweet from all of the active accounts and then display those latest tweets in date order. So the newest tweet across all of the accounts will always be shown first. It is also possible to switch between allowing/disallowing PM (Private Message) tweets to be included in the display.

Separate All Tweets Page

If a user has applied restrictions on the amount of Tweets displayed in the application then they can create a separate WordPress page to hold the entire tweet output of all the active Twitter accounts.

Information Cache

Running the relevant Twitter API function calls can sometimes a few minutes to fully execute. All information is stored in a cache data held locally, so that it minimises the chance of performance loss on web pages.

Cron Support

If users wish to have regular/automatic updates of their Twitter account tweets, then that is achievable through creating a crontab entry, or similar automation mechanism, to execute the supplied “runTwitterScript.php” file.

Specific styling using CSS

A CSS file is supplied to provide a starting point for displaying the tweets, but changes can be made to suit individual preference.

Requested Features
Known Issues
  • Delete users using names not IDs?????
  • Conflicts if included twice (side bar and main page?) require_once needed????

So glad that the web team a) put this together for the community site, but then b) had the good nature to release it for the rest of the world to use - well done boys

hi. Thanks for plugin

perfect.

Regards

Wow. Nice job. Trying to play with the CSS styles to make the tweet output run vertically as you'd see on Twitter. Stuck however. Would anyone be able to share a mod?

Thanks

After looking at the documentation, and your example, I see that my install has none of the style features in the screenshot (twitter image, dropdown, vertical alignment as seen on your twitter page). Wondering what might be wrong?

Kelly

It's our fault. We've worked out the bug. As an interim fix, rename the twitter directory to twitter-feed in your plugins directory!

SORRY! :D

But isn't it already named 'twitter-feed'in the plugins directory? Do you mean the plugin name as it resides with the plugins folder?

Thx

Kelly

Don't worry. James is just uploading the new version. It will be available from the WordPress website in about 30mins as version 1.0.1

Kelly

Sweet. This is really something. It would be great in future if this could optionally be used to display tweets by keyword or in addition to users (think "summize.com"). Also, any idea if this will work with WordPress MU or perhaps in future?

Cheers

Styles are now working. I'm assuming the feed is automated, correct, with no need to update the blog from within the panel. But I've just posted to Twitter and it's not showing up in my feed (although an original post before v1.1 is showing fine.)

Thx

jtuck

The feed is not automated, although there is the capacity for this feature. You will need to write a cron entry, or use some other automation system/script, to run the file runTwitterScript.php for the automation to work.

Otherwise you will need to click on the 'Update Blogs' button in the admin panel each time you want an update.

Sorry to prolong this...I understand now that you need to run a cron job. I've done that, it's not working, but I'm checking with my host to see if it's at their end.

Is this limited to users on your own blog, or can any user on Twitter be pulled into the feed by providing their Twitter username on the admin panel?

The plugin won't let me delete users that I've already created and I'm getting "one or more Tweets have been disabled for XSS security reasons" error when I 'updating blogs'. Doesn't sound good...

Cheers

jtuck

Any user's tweets can be pulled from Twitter, you just need to supply the usernames in the admin panel.

Could you please tell us which usernames you were trying to add? We can test them on our installation of the plugin.

Thanks.

Kelly

Cooo. Lots of bugs in this version. Should be updated soon.

James

Kudos to Kelly for working with me this aft to make the plugin work on my site. I see great potential here for a variety of uses.

One thing that would be great for multi-author blogs like mine is the ability to allow users to give their Twitter ID in the WP profile area (by way of adding extra fields via several 3rd party plugins) and have that automatically update the TwitterFeed plugin. This would allow the user to control if they want to have their tweets on or off at any time.

Thanks

Kelly

That's a good idea. You could turn on the ability in the admin panel.

FYI, I just tried to install this plugin on a brand-new WP 2.5.1 installation, but got this fatal error message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '{' in /ourpdx.net/html/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/twitterScript.php on line 91

jtuck

Hi Betsy:

I've just checked the version of twitterScript.php that is available from WordPress and there are no syntax errors present. It could be that you are running an earlier version of PHP that doesn't accept a try/catch block, which is where the error is being thrown. PHP 5 does accept them and PHP 4 doesn't.

Is it possible for you to find out what PHP version you are running?

Hi there, love the plugin, but I can't get the Separate All Tweets Page to work. I'm pretty new to WP, so can you give me a push in the right direction please?

I've enabled the page in the Twitter Control options, but when I go to that page, nothing is displayed.

Any help is appreciated.

Keith

Kelly

Have you put [twitter] on the page?

Beware, we currently have an open bug where if you end up with the twitter app being created twice (i.e. once in a sidebar and then in the body of your view all tweets page) you get all sorts of horrible crashiness.

James -

I was running PHP 4 on that server, but have requested that it be changed to PHP 5. Will test first to make sure there isn't any other fallout from that switch, then will try to re-enable the plugin.

Thanks for your prompt, detailed reply!

How can I tell which PHP I am running? I get the same error message as Betsy, but don't know how to change by PHP. Thanks for any help you can offer!!

jwing

Hi Jen,

The way I have always done this, is by creating a file with a ".php" file extension. Within that file just put the following:

< ?php

phpinfo ();

?>

Upload this to your server (probably in the root folder and call it something like "phptest.php") and navigate to the file through your web browser e.g. type http://www.yourdomain.com/phptest.php into your web browser. This will list what version of php you are running, plus loads of other things, which I am not too sure what they all mean to be honest :)

Thanks! I think I got it through sheer luck and determination. Now how do I automate with runtwitterscript so i don't have to click 'update blog' every time i tweet?

This is awesome BTW - especially since Twitter's own 'with friends' feed has taken a turn for the worse.

Kelly

Is the latest version causing style issues? I've installed the latest version (sportstwit.com/home/twitter) and my posts fall under the avatar...

Kelly

Have you now removed the plugin from that page? I can't see it in there?

Kelly

Yes I pulled it down but will be re-installing on the parent site today. My posts and the meta info were all falling uder the avatar for some reason. Hopefully the new install wil go fine. Cheers.

Hi, I've successfully installed the plugin and setup the cronjob, but it only grabs the most recent tweet and doesn't retain the others. I've set the restriction level to 5, but it has no effect. Am I missing something?

Kelly

The plugin pulls 1 tweet person on it. Are you after something which returns multiple tweets for one person? If so, you'll need a different plugin! :D

Hi-
I just downloaded the latest version of the twitter-wordpress plugin, and I can't get the CSS to show up. (I don't even find any references to the css file in any of the php files) Help would be greatly appreciated! I have version: 1.0.3 -downloaded from wordpress.org

Thanks!

Greg

jtuck

Hi Greg

Can you check that a file called twitterStyle.css was included in the download. Also there should be a reference to the css file in the file twitterPlugin.php on lines 290 and 297.

Could you let us know the URL of your site and then we can have a look at what is happening.

Hello-
I'm trying to install this and I'm not having much luck. When I click 'Update Blogs' on the admin screen I get the following error:
Key values have not been set. Please visit the admin control pannel and enter the required values.
Any ideas? I don't see anything about 'key values' in the admin control panel...
Thanks!

jtuck

Hi Dave:

The problem here is that you need to add at least one username to the list of usernames in the admin panel as this is a 'key' value. I'm sorry that this wasn't very clear. I will make sure that it is clear in the next release by labeling the 'List Of Usernames' table is marked as being a key value area.

Happy Tweeting!

hi,
i was installing your twitter feed, but I accidentally added a wrong twitter name (p.borgwat instead of pborgwat).
Now I can't delete it anymore! I can add new ones, even other non-existing ones, and delete them all, but I can't delete this one on top!
I get the error "One or more Tweets have been disabled for XSS security reasons.".
I already deleted all the files from the server and re-uploaded them, but something somewhere is remembering all my settings!
can you help?
please mail me if possible, 'cause I'm not checking back on this site regularly.
Thanx,
Pepijn, p dot borgwat at gmail dot com

i have the same problem of pepijn

jtuck

Hi pepijn and NecatPace:

I have tried to replicate the issue on our testing platform and have had no problems with deleting usernames.

Unfortunately re-installing the application will not delete users because the information is stored in the WordPress database. The only way to solve this problem with the current version of the plugin would be to access the database and delete the data that holds the usernames. Depending on where you host your WordPress implementation this may or may-not be tricky.

If you have access to the database then follow these instructions to reset/clear your users

1) got to the wp_options table in the WordPress database
2) delete the row that has a option_name of 'twitter_user_ids'
3) delete the row that has an option_name of 'twitter_user_data'
4) go back to the Twitter control panel and you should have an empty username list

If you can't get access to the database can I please ask that you bear with us and we will include an master option to delete all user data should this problem arise in the future.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused, and I hope this solution helps.

James.

I'm having a little trouble getting the plugin activated. I have 1.0.3 and get an error message on activation:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '{' in /homepages/myusernameredacted/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/twitterScript.php on line 91

I'm sure I'm missing it, but... help?

jtuck

Hi Kevin,

I've just checked the twitterScript.php file and everything looks as it should be including '{' curly brackets.

Can you grab a fresh copy of the files and delete/remove the current install you have.

Then install again with that fresh copy.

[...] - das Team davon bietet Twitter WordPress plugin Version 1.0.3 - dieses Plugin braucht *cURL PHP library* - die letzten Tweets, auch von mehreren Twitter [...]

@James Tuck - Still no luck. I even disabled all plugins and then tried it... no go. Same error with { on line 91.

@James... Still getting the error. Tried uploading the one file seperately... still no luck. Can you email me a known good copy? email = firstname at firstnamelastname dot com

I got it. The php command that was causing the errors is PHP5. So... might want to note PHP5 as a minimum requirement. :)

[...] Twitter Feed - The Twitter Feed plugin makes including and linking to tweets on multiple Twitter accounts simple and flexible [...]

I installed the script and created the cron job to update automatically (every minute). The problem is sometimes the "data" or list of tweets does not appear. No error message, but a blank "all-tweets" page - but the Twitter logo does appear. I have tried this on two of my sites - one running WP 2.7 and the other 2.6, both with PHP 5.2.5.

I have increased the cron time from one minute to longer and still no consistency of how or why the Tweets appear.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Kelly

If you increase it to every 15mins, how does it start working?

jtuck

Hi Kevin:

You are absolutely right you do need PHP5 to run it and I will include it on the minimum spec list.

Thanks for raising the issue :)

jtuck

Hi Dave:

Kelly has beat me to it :)

Kelly and James - thanks for your replies RE: cron job. I changed at 15 minutes and it worked last night. This morning, blank again.

Does the data cache? If so what if the file name so I can check that all is well.

Another question - is it possible to make the avators bigger? Looking in the CSS I believe it is set to 40 x 40. When I changed to 72 x 72, the size did not change.

Thanks.

Dave.

Installed the Twitter Feed on my blog, everything is fine except that I can only get it to show my most recent tweet. Changed the "restrict number of tweets" option up to 10, and it still only shows 1. Any idea what's going on?

Kelly

Aaah David, I think you've installed the wrong plugin :)

This one is designed for multiple people, rather than multiple tweets. It only shows one per person you've added. Why not try Jabber for WordPress: http://rick.jinlabs.com/code/twitter/

Having trouble getting tweets to show using wpmu 2.7 and buddypress at sportstwit.com. Are there any known conflicts?

jtuck

Hi Scot

I've been testing the Twitter plugin with WordPress 2.7 recently and I did not encounter any problems with the displaying of tweets.

Do you get any error messages in the admin panel when you try and update any options or update the blogs?

I can't seem to get the plugin to work on 2.7 i just installed it. other than not being able to delete the users in the feed list, when i hit update blog i get...

"Key values have not been set. Please visit the admin control pannel and enter the required values."

then below in a yellow box

"WARNING: Blogs have NOT been Updated."

i can't seem to find any sort of "admin control pannel"

if it matters, i'm trying to use this in the sidebar widget, not in a page. any ideas?

Kelly

Hi Rob,

We've just upgraded WordPress on this site to 2.7 and the plugin seems to be working fine. The admin panel is in the "Plugins" section of admin and called "Twitter Control".

On there, you need to add the twitter usernames of the people you want to display, and then once they are added, make sure the check box next to their name is selected.

Once that section is populated at at least one selected to show, hitting "Update Blogs" right at the bottom of the page should go and grab the latest tweets from the people selected.

jtuck

Hi Rob

You may need to completely reset the option data in the WordPress database.

After clearing the data please can you re-install the plugin and try again, ensuring that all the required option information has been supplied in the admin panel.

I'm getting a the following parse error.

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '{' in /home/content/e/l/e/elevatedone/html/arrowplain/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/twitterScript.php on line 91

I am using WordPress 2.7.1 & PHP Database Version: 5.0

Thanks!

After much research, the problem comes from GoDaddy.
GoDaddy that doesn't allow the file_get_contents() php function.

Is there anyway you can fix this?

Here is a link for another plugin that mod was made to work for these kind of hosting:

Hi Daniel,

James who developed this plugin is on holiday this week. He is back in the office next week, so I am surre he will take a look then and let you know what he thinks the best solution will be. Sorry i can't be more help at this stage, my wordpress plugin knowledge is a bit ropey so i would be more of a hinderance than help!

Jonny

my advice:

godaddy is great for domains, and sucks for hosting. i am a developer, and i just moved all my sites from godaddy to a new hosting company. surprise, surprise, i no longer have most of those weird bugs. godaddy does not know how to configure their servers.

I can not get this pluggin to work. I have an all tweets page and its not showing up. http://blog.lakelandchamber.com/chamber-tweeple

jtuck

Hi Daniel,

The Twitter Plugin doesn't use the function file_get_contents(). All the data is stored in the WordPress database and so is extracted via pre-defined SQL queries.

Could you download the latest version of the Plugin and try again.

Hey all, much kudos for the developement of this plugin, it looks great!

One thing im trying to suss out however, is how to get the plugin to look like what you have done - have trawled through the CSS files you have on the community site for it, and cant seem to find out how its been done! Any chance you can point me in the right direction?

Scott

Super plugin, thank you!

I set up a cron job that isn't working...if anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it. I'm getting these errors:

line 1: ?php: No such file or directory
line 3: /access-logs: No such file or directory
line 4: Twitter: command not found
line 5: Run: command not found
line 6: syntax error near unexpected token `('
line 6: ` -allows external processes (such as an automated cron entry) to run the Twitter Script file'

Kelly

Colin: Can you reply back with the line from your cron script?

Got it - I had an incorrrect path for the update script. Then I had inserted an incorrect username that I couldn't delete, and that gave me the "one or more Tweets have been disabled for XSS security reasons" error. Went into the database and deleted the bad value and now - success! Here's the result: http://eco-hostels.org

I can't find a donation button here - do you take donations? If not, my sincere thanks for this excellent plugin.

Kelly

I love how you've styled that Colin.

Looks like we might need to do a tweak to the plugin to avoid that incorrect user name issue. I'll talk to James.

I'm trying to add your Twitter WordPress plugin to my blog (http://www.leecarver.com/blog). PHP 5.2.5 and the cURL Library are installed as far as I can tell (http://www.leecarver.com/blog/phpinfo.php). When I have the widget installed on the sidebar, it only displays the Twitter logo and the "Created by:" footer.

I've checked and made sure that my username is correct and marked to be shown. The restriction is set to 5. The All Tweets URL is disabled.

Any thoughts on what I need to do to get this to work?

Nevermind the last post. I had tried updating the cache earlier and it hadn't done anything, but I tried again and the widget is working now.

I guess my new question would regarding setting up a crontab. Is there any example on how to set up the runTwitterScript.php for say every 15 minutes?

And now I realize I probably have the wrong widget for what I want to do. Sorry about all the posts. :)

I figured out that Twitter-Feed doesn't work on WordPress 2.7.x. It spits out well-known message "Key values have not been set. Please visit the admin control pannel and enter the required values."
My friend came up with idea there's problem with versions, because there was lotta changes between 2.7.x and 2.6.x and I made it in live, I mean I checked it out and it seems this plugin is only for WordPress in 2.5.1-2.6.5 version.

Hello, great plugin.

I have a question. When Separate All Tweets Page, how can I to add a tweets page navigation bar like pagged comments wp-plugin?

Thank you.

Hello again

I can not instal the plugin, send this message:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '{' in /var/www/vhosts/foodblogger.es/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/twitterScript.php on line 91

ok, i am VERY new to this whole world, and I installed the plugin fine, but am having trouble automating the updates. in fact, i have no friggin clue where to even start. Any help would be appreciated!

Ok, now I am having an error with a username that I want to delete, as its causing XSS problems. However, it will not delete when I click "delete", I've deleted the plugin and re-installed, but all my old info remains. Thanks in advance for any help!

ok only having trouble with automation now. I tried creating a CRON, but it doesnt seem to be doing anything...

Kelly

You've fixed getting rid of the old user? Do you have command line access to your server? If so, try "crontab -l" and let us know what's there?

Yep, fixed the old user by following advice to go directly into the database, which i did. There was a create Cron option, which asks a bunch of questions and I had it set to update every half hour, ideally i'd like it to be 15 minutes but that wasn't an option. It sends me a log of its success and I get this message:
/web/cgi-bin/php5: Symbol `client_errors' has different size in shared object, consider re-linking
Content-type: text/html

Twitter Curl Function failed to execute: connect() timed out!ERROR: This script failed to run correctly.

However, checking the site, it does seem to be updating, maybe not picking up all the updates though each time. Ill play around with it some more today.

Kelly

Do you have a godaddy account?

http://www.coffeecup.com/forums/our-news-and-contact-software/server-configurations-for-form-builder/?PHPSESSID=0202d64f917e3338292cd97f7b325b57

Or perhaps this issue?

http://marc.info/?l=php-install&m=123440139413079&w=2

The update is reliant on Twitters API. I'm not sure how many updates per hour are sensible with it.

Hello there, I'm getting a "Warning: Invalid CRT parameters detected in C:\domains\RedCellgaming.com\wwwroot\newsites\wp-content\plugins\twitter-feed\twitterPlugin.php on line 204"

Didn't do anything fancy to the code... I'm using wp2.7.1
Anyone knows what's the problem?

Kelly

Hi Nokill. That sounds like a configuration problem on your system. Have a look at some fo the results from this google query and see if you can figure it out!

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Warning%3A+Invalid+CRT+parameters+detected

Thank you for such a great plugin, I have it working perfectly on a WP 2.7.1 install.

I'm a relative beginner with CSS and modifying the plugin to fit my site was a chore, but I'm sure it will get easier as I learn more.

I haven't had any errors or trouble.

Kelly

Looks like cron doesn't know how to run the file to me.

try having:

15 * * * * / /php /home/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/runTwitterScript.php

Ok its working now, I had a little help from my hosting provider. Its still getting an error message but since its working I guess I shouldn't worry about it.

Twitter Curl Function failed to execute: Connection time-outERROR: This script failed to run correctly.

Any ideas how I can get rid of this error? It's in the email sent from cron.

Page not cached by WP Super Cache. No closing HTML tag. Check your theme.

Kelly

Hi!

If the script is running ok and you just want to suppress error messages that appear every now and then, put this on the end of the cron line:

2>/dev/null

This means error message are sent to /dev/null

I hope that works!

I installed the Twitter WordPress plugin and things were working for about an hour. Now it looks like the cached data is not being stored in my WordPress Database. I can see the twitter user names stored in the options table (under "twitter_user_ids") and I can see the also "twitter_show_status" indicators (checked or unchecked). Under the "twitter_user_data" option, all I see is the following value: "a:0:{}"

When I try to manually update the cache, it still shows the same value and no tweets are displayed. Any idea where I should look next?

help anyone, i installed this on wordpress 2.7.1 i get this msg when i click update blogs "One or more Tweets have been disabled for XSS security reasons"
thnks

Great plugin! Worked perfectly for website.

One problem...recently we've been experiencing a 502 Bad Gateway error. It's sporadic and is sometimes fixed by just refreshing the page. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Do you know what's causing it?

Kelly

Greg/Fadi: Not sure about those. I'll nudge James to see if he can help.

Jenny: Where are you seeing that error? On the plugin admin page? or the plugin display?

If it's in the admin page, when you are clicking update, it could well just be twitter being slow to respond. If you've set a script to run regularly, and it's keeping your feed up to date, I wouldn't worry unless you see it getting stuck!

If you still get the "key value..."-error, don't forget to check the "show @username" value and update in the admin control panel at least once. You can change this later, but it has to be checked initially.

I've installed Twitter Feed 1.0.3 into my site (WordPress 2.8) and am having trouble ... the Twitter accounts (usernames) I put into the control panel aren't loading tweets in the widget. All that displays on the site is the "Twitter Feed" header ... am I forgetting something?

meatfish

Same as "Taylor" above, using 2.8 and nothing other than the header showing.

I am somewhat new to WordPress and this plugin especially. Even with the new version, if I wanted an automatic update do I have to create a crontab entry? If yes, how would I go about doing so?

Also, when I try to press the "Update Now" button, sometimes I receive an error and other times I do not.

Sometimes I get:

Twitter Curl Function failed to execute: connect() timed out!

Other times the page will update on its own (has only worked once successfully so far)

Do I have to go to the Admin page and hit Update Blogs to get the twitter feeds to update? Or can I just refresh the page?

Kelly

Reed: You need to automate the pulling of updates. You can do this via the use of a Crontab entry, detailed on here and in the readme.txt

Corey: Do you see it keeping up to date normally? The twitter API is a bit notorious for being flaky, so I'm not surprised you see the odd time out! if you've got it updating at a regular interval, say every 15mins, it should be fine.

re Cron in general: have a read of this: http://www.interspire.com/support/kb/questions/377/How+do+I+set+up+CRON+on+my+server+using+SSH,+Cpanel+or+Plesk%3F

If I don't use sidebar widgets but still want to put it in my sidebar manually, can I do that? If so, what php code do I insert? Thanks.

Have you considered using JQuery.noConflict? Your plugin gives me an error in Firefox's Error Console: $ is not a function. See here for resolution: http://www.adrogen.com/blog/jquery-conflict-is-not-a-function/

I have installed and am using this plugin as well. When it works it is fantastic, just what I needed. However I tend to have similar issues to Corey - with regularity it will say "blogs updated" but show no tweets at all. Is this indeed an issue with Twitter itself or is it possible something is set up incorrectly?

Hello I've just installed this plugin and it seems like it deosn't have auto update instead you need to hit the update blog in the admin cp for it to update. Is there anyway to auto update it? and also I didn't get what "restrcit tweet" all about? it seems like it's not working.

Kelly

Mike: if it works once, and then not every now and then, it will be either a problem on your box, or with twitter. I'd say twitter myself! :) Interesting that you sometimes get nothing? This might actually be a bug in the way it updates if twitter fails...?

Mart: For auto updating, read this bit of the readme:
----
Cron Support
If users wish to have regular/automatic updates of their Twitter account tweets, then that is achievable through creating a crontab entry, or similar automation mechanism, to execute the supplied “runTwitterScript.php” file.

The community feed seems to be very devoid of tweets of late? - http://community.plus.net/twitter-feed/

I count just two over the weekend.

jtuck

Hi Bob, as you know I've been to see you about this and I've replied in the Comms & Training forum.

Hi matthew moore,

If you are getting the 'XSS security reasons' error message then unfortunately, you might not be able to run our Plugin. Our other Plugin, Flickr Photostream, has the ability to bypass this issue but our Twitter-Feed app does not.

We have built in a safety feature to stop XSS injections/hacks and sometimes it can be triggered by non-aggressive data. This is probably what has happened in your case. This problem should be fixed in the next release of the Plugin.

I'm really sorry about this but the XSS feature was something we had to build into the Plugin to stop malicious activity.

jtuck

Hi matthew moore,

Thinking about it you could go in and remove the code that checks for XSS attacks. This would fix your problem but would leave your server open to these types of attacks.

Kelly: Thanks for the advice. The site have it up on is listed in my info. We have a cron set up to pull every ten minutes, but having the data populating the widget is "sporadic." What are possible issues that could cause that if it is on our end?

well thanks ..i actually deleted my whole database and installed again and now I am getting Key values have not been set. Please visit the admin control pannel and enter the required values. when i click update blogs and i do have my twitter ID listed but there is not a checkmark by show. You can see on my site the blue twitter ID is there but nothing ... fresh install of wordpress

Just installed on WordPress 2.8.3, and when I click Twitter Control I get "PHP Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in ***\wordpress\wp-content\plugins\twitter-feed\twitterPlugin.php on line 720". Any clues?

PHP version 5.2.5

I used to have 3 twitter accounts in my twitter feed.. http://www.dalbright.com/blog Yesterday, one of them stopped appearing on the site, I deleted it from the Twitter Control list, and re-added it, that didn't help. I decided to just leave it overnight to see if it would fix itself... today same problem. So then I deactivated the whole plugin and reactivated it, and now another one of the accounts is missing, so only 1 of the twitter accounts is showing up in the feed, out of the 3 I have in the usernames list. Any idea what's going on here?

hi i have both php4 and php5 installed on my server. however, i am receiving this error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '{' in /home/pure/public_html/site/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/twitterScript.php on line 91

can you please help? maybe my wordpress is using php 4 instead of 5? how do i make sure it is using php5 since i have both installed in the server.

thanks

I want to use this plugin for a client site. I don't know if I missed it here, but can I put this in a template (not in a page using [twitter] )? If so, how? Thank in advance!

Hi, I added the widget to my WP site and all I get is 'Twitter Feed' but nothing else. I'm pretty new to WP so maybe I'm missing something.

I put it in the South Sidebar, under Appearance/Widgets. I'm using the Inova theme.

Advice appreciated!

Thanks
-Scott

Hello ALL, I seem to have the one question on here that I keep seeing over and over but no one answers it. I installed the pluggin, and I get the twitter feed and the twitter icon. I have no errors. I inserted 3 twitter names, i tweeted a test tweet and hit update blogs and nothing showed up. I do have my blog on a godaddy server and I know this caused trouble for other people but no one published an answer. Again my site is lostinsound.org

Thanks to anyone who can help, this truly would be one of the most amazing pluggins if i could get it to work. thanks-lostinsound

I think there are some problems with the plugin that have probably been caused by a change to Twitter's API. I know we had to remove the plugin from the front page of the Community Site a while back due to problems that we were having ourselves.

i installed your plugin on 2.85 and am having difficulty displaying live twitter feeds on the side bar? is this plugin not compatible with 2.85 ? i've tried hitting "update blog" but my sidebar still will not display the live feed =(

please help!

Can you tell me the plugins in the footer that has notifier and twitter.

Hi Carlos, as per my post here I think it is - I'll chase it up and see if there's any intention to release a new version...

Kelly

Hey Carlos. We've fixed the plugin and it should be available in the WordPress SVN soon.

One or more Tweets have been disabled for XSS security reasons. Hi newbie. What does this mean and what can I do about it.
Thanks for all your work

Can anyone help me get the Cron code ? I really need it, I will be very grateful to anyone who can help. Expecting a quick assitance...

Can anyone help me?

I cannot for the life of me get my Twitter tweets (username: @paulmaglione ) to appear in my WordPress (version 2.9.1) blog skinned with Swift theme version 5.12).

I have downloaded Twitter WordPress plugin 2.0, activated it, selected a place for it using widgets, but still only see the heading for the widget which refuses to populate with my tweets. What am I doing wrong?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

-Paul

P.S. When I try updating the widget, I also get the "One or more Tweets have been disabled for XSS security reasons" message that June is getting; and still no tweets at all on the blog.

[...] Twitter Feed : will display the latest tweet from all of the active accounts and then displays those latest tweets in date order. the site I'm working on is not widget-aware. What code do I use to add this where I want it to display?

I'm getting the same problem as Paul Maglione. I installed the plugin, dragged the widget to my sidebar, entered the Twitter usernames, and...nothing. No matter what username I put in, with the "@" symbol or without, no tweets show up.

Any hints as to what's wrong?

Thanks!

I seem to be having a problem with it. I configure the settings, add accounts, add the widget, but nothing. Here's my site (tiny sized) http://tinyurl.com/238sydf. It may be fixed by the time you see it but if not I'd appreciate any help :)

My plugin now don't work. may be it use non OAuth?

Very disappointed with this plugin. It should load tweet automatically, not have to push a button in the settings panel each time I need to update my twitter feed. It's TWITTER not a blog I update once a month.

I am trying to teach myself to make a crontab to run the updates. Any help would be appreciated.

Kelly

This is a reasonable intro to cron:

There is a path problem in twitterPlugin.php . Instead of /twitter-feed/, just /twitter/ is used in various places, breaking images and CSS. Since one image is a fold-out arrow, it does look like the plugin doesn't work at all when you first install it as you just see two broken images.

Kelly

Hey Rob. I'll see if I can have a look through the code soon on this. Feel free to check and send us a patch though if you know what the problem is.

i have a problem that few have previously mentioned but i cannot see any solutions posted. I have downloaded Twitter WordPress plugin 2.0, activated it, selected a place for it using widgets, but still only see the heading for the widget with no tweets. What am I doing wrong?
The 'One or more Tweets have been disabled for XSS security reasons' error has appeared everytime i try to update blogs.
my twitter account is 'salts10'
thanks

Just tried installing this plugin but find that some layout which can be seen in the admin panel of the "Twitter-feed" plugin isn't the same as that of the screenshot. I mean that it seems like some of the style is missing as it's not tabled and all mixed up. Any help?

I have a question... On my site, I have a sort of encyclopedia of various female celebrities. On each of their pages, I have select information, including their Twitter addresses (done using the Magic Fields plugin). Is there any way to use your plugin to display the most recent posts from those individual Twitter accounts? Note that the account would be different depending on which page the user is looking at. For instance, here's one page: http://www.howtomeetbroads.com/holly-sonders/. Ideally, I'd like to only display the Twitter posts from her. The other pages in the encyclopedia would likewise only display the posts from the corresponding girl.

Now that Twitter has removed access to RSS feeds (at least as far as I can tell), I can't seem to figure out how to go about doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Downloaded the files, added the twitter account names in the 'twitter Control" admin panel. I don't see anything called "twitter-feed" in the widgets section. I see something called "Twitter Blog", so I tried that but that sidebar section is empty. Id "twitter Blog" the correct name for the widget? If so, this isn't working. if not, any idea why I don't see the widget?

Thanks,

Al

Hi,
I would like to request you to put id for each individual li as it helps in designing in css.

Cheers,
Vishal

Hello,
First, Rob's comment about an error in the /twitter/ vs. /twitter-feed/ was very helpful.

Second, I can't seem to get your accompanying CSS file to do anything. By modifying it, I am not changing anything with my site. (I am not using this as a widget, but rather an All Tweets page. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just wanted to mention that I ran into the problem Rob Freeman mentioned about the /titter/ portion of the path needing to be /twitter-feed/ for the images / styles to work:

"There is a path problem in twitterPlugin.php . Instead of /twitter-feed/, just /twitter/ is used in various places, breaking images and CSS. Since one image is a fold-out arrow, it does look like the plugin doesn't work at all when you first install it as you just see two broken images."

Easy enough to fix on my end, but probably should be updated in the install package.

Thanks!

Hi there.
I have uploaded the files to c-panel (in wp-contents/plugins) and have activated it in the plugins section. When I hit the Twitter control button, I get a page that says - You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page - did I miss a step> Fairly new to WP. thanks. Jo

Couple of questions: 1) Is there a way to make the default view of the Twitter Blog widget to be down instead of up (i.e. I want the feed to be visible by default. Right now I have to click down to have the feed actually appear) and 2) Is there a way to make URL links within the feed open in a new tab/window instead of moving the person away from my website?

I tried looking in the php files and saw the code for up/down, but not sure the best way to reverse the behavior.
