Open Source Contributions

2007 at 12:12 by Kelly Dorset

This page lists open source applications written by PlusNet staff and released to the Community.

Currently we have two applications available for download which are both Wordpress plugins:-

These open source applications have been available to outside world for several months now and have been spotted in use as far afield as South America.

PlusNet has a strong tradition of using Open Source software to power the business. This website, for instance, runs WordPress, SMF, Apache, PHP, MySQL & other software – all open source. Here we hope to show our gratitude and repay the Community in some small way.

I'm still watching this space (mainly because it is so prominently advertised on the community site.) Twelve months have passed and you have to start wondering quite how much tidying these items are being given before they are released. I wonder if events will render them useless before they have seen the light of day, like the mobile phone trolleys of 1982, or the 1500 Free-Mandella t-shirts I have in the attic.

Good things come to those who wait. The impatient, just get frustrated :)

Yes please be patient, we do plan to release some more open source applications.

We have been very busy with various essential projects recently that require our immediate attention, but rest assured we haven't forgotten about the open source items.

Just to confirm, we have released two open source applications in the form of Wordpress plugins :) If you would like to know more please follow the links at the top of this page.

Hi! I get the error 'Warning: The php curl library is missing. Please check you have the curl library installed.Oops, there seems to be a fault with the Flickr site'. Could you tell me how to install it please? I just started using wordpress and I really would like to use your plugin :-) Thanks!

As a Madasafish user, I have just joined the Plusnet forums - it all looks very interesting :-)

However, as it seems that Plusnet are committed to Open Source, it seems strange that Madasafish do not officially "support" Linux, and it is not listed alongside Windows and Macs in the list of operating systems.

While it is true that most Linux users do not _need_ support from an ISP, it would be nice for us to be at least recognised!

Hi there. I'm looking forward to using the Flickr thumbnails plugin but can't find any instructions in your Installation Guide about how to use it if my self-hosted Wordpress site DOESN'T use widgets. Am I right in thinking this is a widget-only plugin, or is there a simple piece of PHP I can include in my templates to get things working.....

Hi - Does this plugin still work in WP 2.7.x? If so, do you expect it to continue to work in 2.8+?

Thanks!

Kelly

Both these plugins are running on this site which is 2.7. Not sure about 2.8, but I don't see why not?

Hi -- I get error while activating this plugin. the error says 'Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.'

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '{' in twitterScript.php on line 91

Kelly

What version of PHP and Wordpress are you running?

I am obviously much less far along this road as I am still trying to work out how to install wordpress or anything else that will make a blog or forum on my force9 site interactive. I don't even understand half the terms used here. Please could anyone help a bear of small brain. I really do want this.

Hi Daffni,

Why not hop to the forums and see if the other users can give you a hand?

This should be the right forum: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/board,9.0.html

I setup the cronjob to run every 15 min, gave it execute permissions. But I get the following errors. Note: substituted for actual id.

/home//public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/runTwitterScript.php: line 1: ?php: No such file or directory
/home//public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/runTwitterScript.php: line 3: /FAKEFS: is a directory

/home//public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/runTwitterScript.php: line 5: Run: command not found
/home//public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/runTwitterScript.php: line 6: syntax error near unexpected token `('
/home//public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/runTwitterScript.php: line 6: ` -allows external processes (such as an automated cron entry) to run the Twitter Script file'

i use this plugin with WP 2.7.x and working good, thanks.

I cannot make Twitter Feed work in any sidebar but the original ones. That is, I have created a new sidebar and registered it. It appears as desired and has all the links, etc, that I want. However, when I move Twitter Feed to that sidebar using the Widgets page, Twitter does not appear. All help appreciated; TIA.

Thanks!
