Re: IPv6 when?

Hopefully can provide some detail early next year of our plans with IPv6 and broadband and trials with dual stacked connections.  FYI we're enabling IPv6 within our core network over the next few weeks.

Re: IPv6 when?

Great, and just in time too, with only ~80 days left until IPv4 address starts to actually bite.

Thanks for the response Carl; I'm sure many of us will look forward to hearing the plan.

Re: IPv6 when?

Hi
Quick update
We enabled IPv6 within our core yesterday and can successfully ping etc across the core using v6.  Next will be IPv6 prefix exchanges with our peering and transit partners.  Beyond that I'll post our plan in the new year.  Also to note we just recently got another IPv4 allocation from RIPE (46.208/16).

Re: IPv6 when?

That's exciting news, Carl (for me at least). Do you have a /48 allocated yet?  Thanks again for the updates, they're really appreciated.

Re: IPv6 when?

I'd like to reserve 2a02:16c8:beef:/64 for myself if at all possible.  Grin
but more seriously (and just so its on more eyes than me just nagging dave on IRC) I'm dual stacked using a netgear in modem mode and a freebsd modem so would like to be included in trails at the appropriate time.

Re: IPv6 when?

At the risk of going off topic,
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
  Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : avatastic.co.uk
  IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2001:470:1f09:5f3:0:dead:beef:cafe

It should be ping6able too.  Cheesy

Re: IPv6 when?

Good to see there more talk of IPv6!  But some of the estimates of IANA running out in a year are way off, they ran out yesterday! Well assigned 2 x /8s to APNIC, the last 5 x /8's will be given out to the 5 RIRs tommorow
It will be streamed live at
http://www.nro.net/news/icann-nro-live-stream
RIPE suspect to run out sometime this year, probably by August and then no more IPv4 so best get upto speed with v6 although its actually not complicated like people make out, infact its simpler than v4 as subnet sizes are standardized.

As far as I'm aware, Netgear offer *no* IPV6 enabled routers.

I believe my DGND3300 does... unless Netgear were just taking the mickey when they left the configuration page in for it.

Re: IPv6 when?

Hi there PlusNet.  I'm/we're still awaiting an update on IPv6.  I would hope that you won't be charging for an updated router and/or firmware but fear that I'll be shelling out serious cash for access to the internet as you're a business and any saving we've made on your excellent monthly prices will be gobbled up by a new hardware outlay.  This is a very serious concern that many of us have had for at least 2 years now.
Do you have any firm plans yet about your next move?
Thanks.

The new year is slipping away.
May I suggest that Plusnet start an IPv6 blog to provide updates, however tentative they may be. This should help to inform customer's purchasing decisions for future hardware and software.

Re: IPv6 when?

Hi,
A blog will be posted in the coming weeks, this will include our plan etc.
We have already been testing IPv6 for PPP access, and the next steps will be to test with IPv6 capable CPE, then a user trial.

CPE - customer premises equipment
or something entirely different
Use of obscure acronyms annoys me
