iPlayer Judder on The PS3 - Is It Just Us ?

« on 05/11/2009, 21:57 »
Would someone do me a favour and check out the program "Click" from Sat 31 October on the PS3 iPlayer.

On our 40Gb PS3 the image is juddering all the way through the program. I've check the same program on my PC (IE8 on XP) and it plays fine. A random sample of other programs on the PS3 are also ok.

I have noticed this juddering on the PS3 iPlayer before but it only seems to affect the odd program.

I was wondering if it was just us?

Thanks - Bob

Edit - just to be clear, it's not buffering but stuttering as if there isn't enough processing power to play the image smoothly.

Thanks Strat, it's reassuring to know that it's not just us then. As I said I've noticed it a few times, hopefully Sony are aware and will get it sorted.

I've watched other programs on iPlayer on the pS3 before and also haven't noticed a problem.....admittedly very few as I've only recently bought my PS3.

120GB Slim model BTW.

We've watched a fair few and never seen anything like it. Does seem very odd to be just one program.

I was going to come straight in with the answer but it's not the problem I thought it was.

I'll tell you this little tidbit anyway. If you replace the hard drive for a bigger hard drive do your research because some of them seem to cause a slight pause every 10 seconds when watching bbc iplayer. I assume it's to do with read/write speed or some such technical problem I don't really know.

As for this irregular one I haven't got the foggiest.

I've asked the BBC the question so we'll see what they have to say....if anything.

Probably something like 'update your software / firmware'.

We use the iPlayer on our PS3 quite a lot and I'd say that I've seen this problem 2 or 3 times. We've not replaced our HDD and are on the latest version of the firmware.

It will be interesting to see what the BBC say.

Update.

I have received a reply from the BBC and you may not be surprised at the contents.

Quote
Thank you for contacting BBC iPlayer support team.

I understand you are experiencing problems streaming programmes on PS3.

I would advise that you first clear your cache and cookies within the PS3 browser:

From the main menu, select Network.
Select Internet Browser.
After the Internet Browser appears press the Triangle button.
Select Tools on the Options menu.
Select Delete Cookies or Delete Cache then select Yes to confirm.

You will then need to ensure that you have the most recent firmware available for the PS3.

Once again thank you for contacting BBC iPlayer.

Regards

Bearing in mind that I specifically stated that the problem affected Click and no other program I had tried, that's a pretty standard CSA reply...abbeit from the BBC. Roll Eyes

Nah, from Jameseh you'd have been told to get an XBOX :p, BBC iPlayer clearly don't have a Comms Team though Wink

I've had problems with Click on the standard iPlayer before, strange that it would only affect that on the PS3.

At least with an XBOX there'd only be 1 issue, iPlayer doesn't work at all Roll Eyes
