Broadband Phone Software/Hardware Setup

« Reply #32 on 30/11/2007, 12:07 »
NOKIA N95

Here are my settings for the N95 and the VoIP BETA.

Select Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > SIP Settings
Select Options > New SIP profile > Use Default Profile

Enter the following settings (where 1234567 is your SIP ID)...

Profile name: Broadband Phone
Service profile: IETF
Default access point: Your WLAN/GPRS/UMS connection
Public user name: sip:1234567@sip.plus.net
Use compression: No
Registration: Always on
Use security No

Next, select 'Proxy Server' and enter the following settings...

Proxy server address: sip:nat.plus.net (or natproxy.plus.net)
Realm: [/b]sip.plus.net
User name: 1234567
Password: Your BETA trial password
Allow loose routing: Yes
Transport type: UDP
Port: 5082

Now press 'Back', select 'Registrar server' and enter the following settings...

Registrar server address: sip:sip.plus.net
Realm: sip.plus.net
User name: 1234567
Password: Your BETA trial password
Transport type: UDP
Port: 5060

Click 'Back' and after a few seconds (assuming you have WLAN connectivity) the account should show as registered. If you get a warning about WLAN availability then just accept it.

Click 'Back' and go to 'Internet tel.'
Click Options > New profile
Select the sip.plus.net SIP address
Call the profile something relevant (Like 'Gradwell' or 'Broadband Phone') and click 'Back' to save the settings.

Dial a number, click 'Options' and select 'Internet Call'

Please note that the 'Internet Call' option may not be present. If it isn't then there's a possibility that your provider has removed the VoIP functionality of your handset. If you are using GPRS/UMS then there amy also be restrictions at that layer that are preventing you from making calls or registering with the service.

You may also want to check to make sure that call barring is not switched on for SIP calls.
tools > settings > phone>  call barring >  internet call barring> anonymous call barring > switch off

Edit: Updated the settings to make them consistent with changes that have occurred since this was first posted.

I also have a PAP2T. These settings worked for me:

Proxy = sip2.plus.net
Outbound proxy = nat.plus.net:5082
Use outbound proxy = yes
Display name  = your SIP ID
User ID = your SIP ID
Auth ID = your SIP ID
Password = the SIP password from your activation email

Hi,
I'm on the voip beta trial. I set up my t mobile n95 as Bob suggested, using Default access point as general.t-mobile.uk. (I'm subscribed to webnwalk max) I can get registered. But if I make an internet call eg to 123@sip2.plus.net (the clock) , the call seems to connect but I just get silence. Any ideas?

Thanks
Adam

I checked what Bob listed, and I can see one set of data different on my set up. I've copied bobs and highlighted the changes.

Public user name: sip:1234567@sip2.plus.net

Next, select 'Proxy Server' and enter the following settings...

Proxy server address: sip:nat.plus.net
Realm: sip2.plus.net
User name: 1234567
Password: Your BETA trial password
Allow loose routing: Yes

gibbo72,
Thanks for the suggested changes.
I tried them but still get the same result.
Has anybody managed to use the voip beta service, using  t-mobile internet?

Hi Adam,

With the Nokia N Series mobiles it is best to ensure that you have the most recent firmware running and that you have configured the device to the detail.

This Gradwell knowledgebase atricle on Nokia N Series config should be able to help: http://www.gradwell.net/support/nokia-single

If not, just post back here.

Thank,
Jake

Hi Jake,
I upgraded to the latest firmware (and lost a few apps in the process - no suprise there).
I've tried settings as Gradwell suggested, using SIP proxy: nat.plus.net and port 5082.
Still the same result - silence.
Web n walk max is supposed to allow voip calls. I guess the port 5060 isn't blocked or I wouldn't get registered.
Any more ideas or tests I can do?

Thanks

Hi Adam,

Thanks for trying that. We are going to look into it further for you. Will get back to you once we know more.

Thanks,
Jake

edit/ We have found, using aT-Mobile N95 on a £7.50 a month Web 'n' Walk plan, that the phone uses double natting and, therefore, will not use VoIP. This cannot be confirmed as a definate for your phone however as it is a different plan and could have different settings.

Jake

anybody get trixbox or asterisk working with this yet?

my config which worked under plustalk was:

canreinvite=no
context=from-pstn
fromdomain=myaccount.plus.com
fromuser=plustalk
host=84.92.0.75
insecure=very
nat=yes
qualify=yes
registerattempts=0
registertimeout=40
secret=mypassword
type=friend
username=plustalk@myaccount.plus.com

register string is:
plustalk@myaccount.plus.com:mypassword@84.92.0.75/plustalk

i used the ip's instead of sip.plus.com as it decreased the latency by quite a bit.

I have a Vigor 2700VG with 2 accounts set up. Sipgate and the plusnet beta. I can call in on the landline numbers to both accounts, call out to landlines on both accounts and call the sipgate account from plusnet. My one problem is that calling the plusnet account from the sipgate one gives me the "is unavailable" message and goes to voicemail which works OK.
Grateful for any ideas.

ummm....
it keeps going on and offline.

in voip control panel, iv;e got someting like:
online until 2007-12-04 21:28:49

and in status:
[my server] expired at 2007-12-04 21:28:49, logged into lilac

*** UPDATE ***

despite the above happening, the whole thing seems to be working. i think the major change was my context which changed from [incoming] to [from-pstn] which is my setup.
audio appears clear and incoming calls are working fine.

Hi Ian

Can you confirm that your phone is fully working, I've set mine up the same and although 123 and 160 work when I try to dial out I get a busy tone. Calling in I get message phone offline and voip.plus.net also says the same.

Hi Alan,

Yes it worked fine when i tried it , I certainly used it to make an outgoing call and whilst I havent actually picked up an incoming call, the phone did ring when I called it from my BT landline.
