Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

I've received an email about the new community site (30/7/2007) and it says to go to http://portal.force9.net/...tml?action=community_site and choose my own unique username/password.

The link takes me to the force9 portal login screen which I duly login using my existing credentials.  I need to do this to see the Registration screen...

The registration screen asks for a new username and password.  I enter a NEW username and select an >8 char password and it then comes back with:

Sorry, your account registration failed - Email Address In Use

How can this be true, I've not provided an email and it hasn't asked me for one.

I am using the latest version of FireFox.

You appear to be already registered

We didn't remove people already  registered from the mailshot.  Our bad!

You seem to be posting as a registered member of the community site so I would fully expect your username to be in use!
