Is there any way to get the stats from the standard BT fibre modem?
Things such as noise etc.

Ok, fair enough. Don't really want to hack the thing for fear of bricking it.

Keep an eye on eBay for HG612 modems - Available already unlocked. They're generally around £40 but I won a locked one for £14 and flashed it with the unlocked firmware.
My original modem is sitting safely in a box should the hacked one go wrong or there's a fault that BT need to investigate.

"Hacking" is a strong word its not like you take a hack saw and solder iron to it xD. Its just holding down a reset button and uploading a different firmware to it.
It really depends on what modem you have if you have the ECI one then it cannot be unlocked at the moment however the EchoLife HG612 can be and if you google it it is the second result. If your not sure what modem you have look on the back of it
