Were those results sync speed and SNRM, or download speeds?

I tested them all at the time and they were fairly similar so used the extension for ease of use. I may try the master again to see if it makes any difference just in case there has been a degradation for some reason. I need to wait until I can get a longer Ethernet cable as the Master socket is not that accessible.

When you removed the bell wire (was that at extension sockets as well?) do you remember the colours of the wires on terminals 2 & 5?
If not, have a look behind one of your extensions that the modem/router is not plugged into.

Blue & White and White & Blue.
Bell wire was certainly removed at the master socket and the extension socket used for the router. It may not have been removed from other extensions. Would that make a difference? Only one extension socket (apart from the router) is in use now for a DECT phone.

Is the Sky box plugged into a Microfilter that looks like this?
Do you have a spare filter?

Both Sky boxes were plugged into a micro filter. Neither is plugged into the telephone sockets now as I dropped the multiroom sub so no reason to keep them connected.

Re: Routerstats Lite/Full

Found some old logs from my O2 days in 2010 and then Sky from November 2013. I have logs from the day I moved over to Sky through DLM training and out. Didn't do them throughout as there was no need.
Last set of logs from Sky were in April 2014. Neither the O2 logs nor the Sky logs show any sudden drops and nothing has changed at my end since moving to PlusNet.
This is a section 5 days into DLM.

Re: Routerstats Lite/Full

This really is ridiculous now and beginning to regret moving from Sky.
Very short drop this morning but just had another drop where SNRM actually went into the minus figures! It was hovering around the 0.4 mark when I finally ran out of patience after about 45 minutes. Disconnecting and reconnecting made no difference so disconnected and rebooted so that I could actually use the internet. Resync speed of course dropped from 6703 to 5167 but at least it's usable just now.
As we've discussed I would find it hard to believe this is something just at my end as nothing has changed connection wise. So it seems PlusNet is unable to handle things the way both O2 and Sky did - again I find this strange.
Any suggestions?

Just to pick up a couple of things from reply #105 - As your wiring is to the correct standard, there would be little point in going back to the master or test socket. It's generally a good idea to disconnect the bell wire from extensions sockets as well (and disconnect it's mate from terminal 4 as well for tidyness) so that anything plugged into extension sockets can never connect to the bell wire.
Interesting data from your previous connection -
Sat 30 Nov 2013 looked as though that was running with a slightly higher noise margin circa 8.0dB.
Tue 11 Feb 2014 a lower noise margin which was around 5.0dM and the consequential higher speed.
Sun 02Mar 2014 Noise margin only slightly less than 30 Nov but speed only slightly more than then.
Sun 06 Apr 2014 More difficult to judge as it was evening data, but if we assume that the margin was at best around 7.4dB, speed was less than in March when it should have been the same or better, but it wasn't too dissimilar to November. No evidence of any interference there on any of them.
Do you have much more recent figures from just before you moved?
Stats from yesterday evening, not unreasonable after the morning drop.
As far as the most recent bout of interference goes, just clicking Disconnect which doesn't affect sync (it just drops the PPP Internet session) will have little effect on usability in this situation, however the best way of dealing with this is to click Disconnect and then wait a minute and pull the power plug. Stay off-line for 10 minutes if you can and then power up again, when it's booted, login and click Connect. This approach stops DLM from thinking you just had a dropped connection when it might otherwise raise the Target SNRM, or possibly Band the speed (cap it).
It's not Plusnet being unable to handle things, as the exchange equipment is BT Wholesale and we don't know how the Sky Exchange equipment would be handling a similar situation. However I am bothered by the fact that you mentioned the SNRM going minus which suggests the interference is worse or something else is going on.
What's the SNRM graphs like for the last 24 hours and can you post the current stats.
I have one other check you should do and that is make sure that your extension sockets are genuine secondary sockets and not master sockets with a capacitor on the back as seen here. Depending on make, the capacitor is usually yellow, but may be black, blue or even green.

Ok will do so when I have a little more time.

No unfortunately. There was no need to monitor the connection as it was always ok.

Thanks. I'll remember the 10 minutes part in future.

The one being used is definitely an extension socket. Not sure on the others.

Re: Routerstats Lite/Full

Hi all,
Sorry for the late reply. Here is one of the links I was mentioning earlier,  refers to Sky'... 'Further enhancements to their DLM software yielding higher/more stable speeds' however the poster had been on sky for a few months so not a new connection/DLM training period, but some change to how lines handle speed.
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-broadband-feedback/55083-sky-unlimited-speed-slight-increase.html
(Anotherone) In answer to your post from the 20th, I have no real explanation as to why my connection with sky would be solid for months/years and on the changeover to plusnet be any different. Everything bar the sky router and sky equipment at the exchange, green street cabinet, drop wire, router extension cable, micro filter are the same, hence my conclusion with noise/interference at the exchange. (the sagem router being totally bog standard!) It is too much of a coincidence to happen a day after switching sky>plusnet. Maybe other users (small number on the same rack) in my area are affected but just don't know what to look for/are not bothered as it doesn't directly affect the connection. (just speed)
Yes, my comment of Netgear - Amod regarding DSLAMS was unclear! (sorry) What I meant to say was having an Infineon - Infineon matchup (netgear my end and at the exchange is appears to be  IFTN also) It's all beyond me, but having tried so many Broadcom chipsets and 2 Infineon ones they seem to sync higher. Googling those terms may yield a better explanation (it seemed to be all in Italian!)
And to answer the other questions (and for jem16's info)  - No crackling on dial tone or on receiving/making calls. - standard BT openreach  socket with the lower half comes away to reveal master socket. No extensions, only the one bt socket on the wall. Change microfilters regularly. Only the 2m short cable from socket to router via micro filter and phone plugged into this also.
cheers

I would agree with that. With my current connection I have a 1mb drop in speed but at least it will work. With my optimum connection I get a better speed but it's unusable when I get these drops. Anyone who did as I have just done and rebooted during a problem time will get a connection that works but is slower. Many will not notice nor care as long as it works.

Re: Routerstats Lite/Full

Jem16, this was my observation as well. I had between a 3 - 4 mbps drop for no explainable reason. (Sky>PlusNet).
Large family and (sadly) no prospect of fibre at my cabinet hence my quest to gain every 'kb' of speed on Adsl2+.
Hopefully, once the DLM process is over the PlusNet team on here can have a look at the connection and can try something/investigate?
edit:  hang on, looks like you've had this from before 11/11/14 so >10 days...

Yep moved over on 10/11/14.
I'd certainly like it looked at as I'm not especially happy - a 1mb drop when you only can get 6mb is quite a loss.

Re: Routerstats Lite/Full

Ah, well hopefully the DCT (plusnet online presence) will have look from tomorrow. I believe they monitor the board Monday to Friday. (Assuming they haven't picked this up already, I haven't read the whole thread...). In the mean time the good folk here will offer suggestions/tips and things to try 🙂
@Anotherone - I saw your post about noise on another thread and found this graph in my settings, bit loading and SNR. Hopefully will mean more to you than it does to me!

Hopefully - would appreciate it.
Another drop tonight and in the middle of that drop a very strange drop down to an SNRM of 0. I was on Skype at the time which lost the connection and I also got an error message to say another computer had the same IP address as mine - never had that one before.

Re: Routerstats Lite/Full

Well I'm sorry to pour cold water on this"interference from the exchange" idea for the reasons I gave in a previous post. However I won't rule out the extremely unlikely possibility of a line card fault, but this is unlikely in view of the interference that jem16 was able to pick up on the radio.
@jem16
It will be important to check that those extension sockets are secondaries and there isn't any masters there.
The most obvious thing to try for your connection is to get interleaving turned on and see how/if that improves things, as it should stabilise things.
The ultimate cure will be to locate the source of your interference and hopefully get it fixed, but if it's effects can be mitigated to stop any drops or slowdowns that will be good progress.
@pj2014
Thanks for the Sky link, but it didn't reveal anything exciting. The speed the guy was getting was no different from what I'd expect for an ADSL2+ connection with a 3dB Target SNRM with his attenuation. I'll see what else I can find out. I'm not actually sure what problem you are actually seeing on your connection as according to those stats it's been up for 7days and back in April you said it was stable. The graphs from your modem/router are Bits/Tone and their SNR plots. The current one and the one back in April are virtually identical and your speed are only a few kbps different from then. Maybe you could explain what the problem is in more detail.

I wouldn't give any credence to the interference I picked up as it was still there even when the SNRM had returned to normal as we talked about. I tried again over the weekend and couldn't pinpoint a noise which disappeared when the interference disappeared. I suspect I'm not doing something correctly.

I will check. Visually I can say that the extension boxes are about half the size of the master socket. Most (apart from the one I'm using with the router as that was put in when I switched to ADSL BB) are about 20/30 years old.

Yes it would be really. Is there any possibility that it could be the router itself as this is the only thing that has changed apart from the obvious connection itself?

Re: Routerstats Lite/Full

I sure some one from CRT can pick this up and get Interleaving turned on for you.
Whilst it's possible that it could be the modem/router, the pattern doesn't seem to match that, and some further tests would be needed once Interleaving is on to try and establish that possibility.
