@Matthew, my line speed on the Plusnet side is now showing as updated:
Phone exchange:
PAIGNTON
Estimated line speed:
56Mb (Download speed could vary depending on line conditions. Estimates are the maximum speeds that your phone line can support. These speeds are dependent on the package you choose.) - Checked on 2014-04-07 03:51:54
Current line speed:
78 Mb
But I'm still getting:
Which suggests to me that the modem is still syched @ 42/20.
Can you have a look for me?
Cheers for the help.

Is it just a case of being patient and letting the speed rise, or does it need a kick some where?

Speed wise is very up and down, the same goes for downloads.
At the moment, Steam is impossible to download from.
I screen shot it so you can see it's wired etc.

As tijara33 has mentioned above, if your speeds are still pretty sporadic, I would raise a fault on the above link.

I wouldn't be surprised if the engineer cocked up the install, my line was perfect before, and I am the only FTTC subscriber in that cab.
I run the BT speed test as requested but it gave the following error message:
FAQ
Results Image not loaded
1. Best Effort Test:
Download Speed : 39.94 Mbps
2. Upstream Test:
Upload Speed : 12.49 Mbps
Your speed test has completed and the results are shown above, however during the test an error occurred while trying to retrieve additional details regarding your service. As a result we are unable to determine if the speed you received during the test is acceptable for your service. Please re-run the test if you require this additional information.
So it wont show on your records.

Looking at the results your line is erroring quite frequently and this will be manifesting as the intermittent issues you've been particularly with the poor speeds
Once we have a response back from Openreach we'll be in touch

I thought maybe it pointed at something specific.
Wishful thinking?

Every other page gives a 'can't be loaded' error, and the Xbox/PS4 lag is pretty horrendous.

The guy was lovely, but he didn't seem to know his arse from his elbow.
He told me that the problem was fixed, and I was getting a good speed, with my router sync'd at 52/20. He said as I was estimated to get 30meg down it's a result...
I politely asked him to check again, as my estimate is 57 to 64.
He then said that actually my modem is sync'd at 41/19!
He then said he was sorry, and would call me back in 10 minutes!
A few minutes later he called back, and said he was sorry but every thing he told me was wrong, and I need BTOR to visit!
Poor guy sounded pretty embarrassed
Any way, BTOR are due tomorrow afternoon.
De ja vous!
