help
can someone easily explain to me how calls to mobiles which are over 1" long are charged. At my advanced age of 50+ I understand about the cost of call + set up fee & I know there is some rounding up involved. I am beginning to think I have lost the plot as I have asked so many times but dont seem to be able to get a straightforward answer.
thank you, anybody, in advance

Quote Call and bill information
4. A call setup fee of 12.5 pence applies except to inclusive calls. The duration (length of time) of your calls are rounded up to the next whole minute before we work out the call charge. If your call charges are worked out without including VAT, they will be rounded up to the next penny before VAT is added. The VAT on your bill will also be rounded up to the next whole penny.

Quote from: Oldjim If your call charges are worked out without including VAT...
How would we know this?
Is it standard practise to round up pre-VAT costs then round up again after applying VAT?
I'm just thinking that this could add the best part of a couple of pence in some cases which could represent nearly 10% of, say, a 20p call charge (not forgetting the call time has already been rounded up). After rounding to full minutes, should it not then be rounded to the nearest penny at each subsequent stage?
Most of my chargeable calls are under one minute to mobiles so I believe my call charges are being artificially inflated by a not-insignificant amount.

I think this refers to business accounts where all the charges are ex VAT and are different to the domestic tariff

thank you all for comments & sorry for the amusement about 1"-told you it was the advance age + first time user of forums or should that fora?
I know we are only talking about pence here but the reason I left my last provider was lack of clarity about charges.
looking at one of my bills today there was a charge of 27p for a call to a mobile made before 7pm lasting 1min 6 secs, then another call costing 28p made before 7pm lasting 1 min 12 secs-I just want to understand if they are charged so much for so many seconds over 1 min.
for info please see below one of the replies I received about my query.
"I am going to provide the raw call data as I think that is what is needed on this to give you all the information you will need.
Your call made on 2012-01-02 11:34:31 is shown below:
Call start time: 2012-01-02 11:34:31 Duration: 66s Rounded Duration: 66s Destination cli: <mobile number removed> Call charge: 27p. Fixed fee: 0.00p. ------------------------------------- Section start: 2012-01-02 11:34:31 Section end: 2012-01-02 11:35:37 Section price: 13.750 Matched to: UK Call to destination type Mobile Telephone - fm4 Priceband: Mobile Telephone - fm4 Callplan: Plusnet Talk Anytime Timeband: Peak7 Price Per Minute: 12.500p.
You can match the Priceband using our call charges link below:

Your call made on 2011-12-28 17:19:12 is shown below:
Call start time: 2011-12-28 17:19:12 Duration: 55s Rounded Duration: 60s Destination cli: <mobile number removed> Call charge: 25p. Fixed fee: 0.00p. ------------------------------------- Section start: 2011-12-28 17:19:12 Section end: 2011-12-28 17:20:12 Section price: 12.500 Matched to: UK Call to destination type Mobile Telephone - fm5 Priceband: Mobile Telephone - fm5 Callplan: Plusnet Talk Anytime Timeband: Peak7 Price Per Minute: 12.500p.
Looking at this data, It seems like my calculations were incorrect, as you can see the call made over 1minute is not rounded up, I have confirmed this information as well with our other teams.
To clarify, calls under 1minute will be rounded up to 1minute, all calls made after 1minute will be charged to the nearest second. This is why the prices are only 2p apart. "

Looks like I'm not being overcharged after all, that's a relief.
Well spotted on the incorrect wording.
