Fibre to cabinet + Thompson 585 v8 router = ?

As discussed on another thread, I've had FTTC installed but Plusnet haven't supplied a router.
Until it arrives, can I disconnect the HG612 and replace it with my Thomson TG585 running 8.2.7.7?
If so what are the instructions for chaging it from PPPOA to PPPOE?

The HG612 is the (BT) Fibre modem isn't it? You can't disconnect that, but you can get some routers to work with it.
I don't think the Thomson can work with an external modem but I don't know for sure. I think you are stuck until the Plusnet router turns up.

According to http://www.sodetel.net.lb/admin/docs/thomson585.pdf
The Thomson CAN be set up for PPPOE, can anyone confirm that this will work on Plusnet.

Probably best to keep this to the one thread - and the one in fibre trials looks like the more comprehensive one.

Hi Spile,
You can't use the Thomson as a router, but you can set up your computer directly to the modem via ethernet and configure it to work directly through it. There's different instructions available on our community library for whether it's XP or Vista/Windows7 you're using.

But I've already connected that way and it means just one PC instead of four connected and no wifi.
If the Thomson supports PPPOE then why can't I use it instead of the HG612?

The Thomson is an ADSL router not a fibre router. ADSL can use PPPoA and PPPoE but it's not the same as fibre.
