Understanding the speed of BB Your Way vs the new packages

My old PN connection was Value Option 2 with a BT 2091 Router, regularly got 6 out "up to" 8Mbits and overnight when uncapped that would increase to 7.1 - brilliant.
For this billing period I requested the 60Gig dowload cap for an up to 20Mbit connection, on a replacement TG585 v8 router - and it's slower so far. Once my current ticket is closed and the line gets back to the optimal speed, if it doesn't improve, any issues with requesting a move back to an equivalent option 2 for my next bill date next month? Faster downloads on a smaller cap are what I've been used to.

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

Please clarify the product you were on - there was no product Value Option 2
Are you referring to sync speeds or download/speedtest speeds

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

Download and test speeds as quoted by the applications themselves, whether they were browsers downloading, or Steam. Checking my account details the name "Extra" is there, which I assume is the newest one I was put on by request.
Found the original Email it was "Broadband Your Way" back in 2008 and have edited the thread title for any confusion.

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

and there is the answer.
your default noise margin has bounced up to 15dB which has restricted your speed.
this was probably a side effect of going to ADSL2+
This will need a staff member to jump in to see if there is an obvious reason for it - perhaps a lot of disconnections during the training period

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

Hi nethlyn,
I've just matched your PN & BT profiles to 5000k so if you disconnect and reconnect via your router homepage you should see this difference.
@Jim, he's on ADSL1 on 21CN btw.

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

In which case is it the move to 21CN which mucked up the noise margin - it did with me
How about moving him to ADSL2+ which will start a full retrain and perhaps fix the problem and give better speeds into the bargain

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

Hi Jim,
I think the main thing is that the PN profile was 2000 before I changed it.

Partly - but it still doesn't explain the very high noise margin - see my edit above

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

Hi Jim,
Of course, it's possible to move him to ADSL2+
If you want to do that, nethlyn, just let me know and I can get it ordered. Normally takes about a week.

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

Many thanks Jim and Jojo
Any price difference on ADSL2+ compared to the Extra I took up 6 days ago? Or am I mixing up a package with the connection type?
I think what I'll do is close my ticket from overnight, see where my connection gets back to after the 3-4 days of the router being on as I was in the habit of turning everything off overnight. Since it takes a week anyway to go to ADSL2+ then it won't matter, as posted below, please go ahead with the order  Smiley

Re: Understanding the speed of Value 2 vs the new packages

ADSL2+ is nothing to do with your account type (all current account types can go on to it), it's the way you connect to the exchange and hence the maximum speed you should get. It won't affect what you pay.
Looking at you stats you should see a nice speed increase.

Given the info from Jelv, if you can make this order within this billing period straight after a tariff change then please do so Jojo, If my exchange and router can hack it then might as well get the best possible speed.

Hi nethlyn,
Yeah, sure thing, I'll order that for you now and it should be working after 7 days.
