No data showing for Shipley or Walkden yet, probably a bit early yet, might start to see something next month.

Any news anywhere for Guiseley Dave?

I haven't seen it on any lists anywhere recently, other than on one list where is said Infinity should be available later this year.

Generally I'd tend towards the majority - i.e. Nothing planned or confirmed yet, but one lives in hope...
OK - the out-of-sync-guy-falling-on-floor-thingy has gone now.

I shall think of something else to fill this void with at some stage.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for keeping the Basingstoke information flowing, it's good to see some sort of progress from your channels while I await a reply from the local Openreach deployment project manager.

I have entered my phone number into the BT availability checker this afternoon and see that the FTTC statement is back on my enquiry reply... does this make it a Red Letter day?  Am I finally in-scope for the service ?   :-)

Regards

Mark

Suggest my Exchange Poplar and enablement date of end of september 2010.

James_G - Guiseley is due later in the year, I think it's a phase 4 exchange so I'd expect it mid/end of the year. Any dates beyond this month at the moment could move around a few months yet, they're going to try and do whole areas at a time from what I understand.

goatie999 - yep looks like it's now ready from what I can see too and looks like the cabinet is in your kitchen from the estimate Smiley I'll drop you an invite ticket out

Caveman - that looks about right to me, as far as I can see it's the same list I've seen although the dates may move about a bit, well mine hopefully becomes sooner Smiley

Hi Dave,

I'm connected to the Chelmsford exchange which I understand has been enabled for FTTC under phase 1. The street cabinets around me all look to be the newer bigger models so I presume upgraded to fibre status. Is there anyway i can find out which cabinet I'm connected to and if/when FTTC will be available to me if it's not already?

The phone number checker returns no mention of FTTC and quotes ADSL speed results which are significantly under what I actually achieve.

The address/post code checker says my line is WBC FTTC enabled where consumers have received downstream line speed between 16.3 to 18 Mbps and upstream line speed between 6.9 to 7.7 Mbps.

If you need any more info (username, address, phone number etc) then please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers Dave Wink, very excited now. No idea what I would do with 40mbs downstream, but and improved upstream would be great.

Excellent news Dave, I am eagerly awaiting the delivery date you just confirmed   Cheesy

If I do get the advised speed (38.5Mb) I will be well chuffed but as I make my PCP to be ~1000ft away in a straight line, I am doubtful.

Regards

Mark

Hello all, I have been informed this is the best place to enquire about FTTC.

I have recently joined Plusnet. I am on the Glasgow Bridgeton exchange which is apparently earmarked to be upgraded with FTTC in April.

Out of interest I put my phone number into the BT Infinity checker and it did not give the infinity product as an option. When I entered my house number and postcode it gave Infinity as "coming soon".

If BT are upgrading an exchange with FTTC does this mean they are not doing all the street cabinets, or should all of them be covered? I have noticed a quite a few brand new cabinets pop up on the streets surrounding my flat already, so I assume my line is in one of them.

Also, are Plusnet thinking of trialling FTTC in the Glasgow Bridgeton area? It would be something that would interest me if they were.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I've always been entering my phone number in to BT's checker as that's what it tells you to do for the greatest accuracy. But, inspired by your post, I've just tried the postcode and address checkers – both of which say:

Quote
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed between 17.7 to 19.6 Mbps and upstream line speed between 6.9 to 7.7 Mbps.

!

Can you shed any light on this please Dave – is my local cabinet really FTTC-ready now, and if so, why does the phone number checker say I can't get it? Huh?

The checker seems to have the FTTC text for a postcode when BT are in the process of upgrading the cabinet serving that postcode.

When they are able to accept orders for lines on a particular cabinet then the FTTC text will appear in the checker for the phone numbers of lines connected that cab.

I guess a false positive might result from the checker in cases where a postcode is served by more than one cabinet and not all of those cabs are being upgraded.

moffat2000 - we can't place an order until the phone number checker says that you can get FTTC, the phone number checker is the most accurate but doesn't seem to be including future data at the moment, plus like bubby says the post code checker can be less accurate because the speed check can be wrong depending on how wide an area the postcode covers and because one postcode can be served by more than one cab and one could be ready and the other not.

Not every cab on every exchange is being done and lines fed direct from the exchange can't  get FTTC, plus those that the checker says can't get 15Mbps or higher can't get it so it's pretty much a rely on the checker, if it says you can get it when you use the phone number we can place an order, if it doesn't we can't.

As far as our trial is concerned then yeah we'll be including your exchange and any other exchange that's on the lists as they get done, I've got a steady trickle of requests coming in at the moment (not all Basingstoke either for those keeping up with the thread) but anyone that can get it is more than welcome to take part regardless of where they are in the country.

Be3G - I heard a possible date of next month but need to check up on it as all future dates are very subject to change.

Thanks Dave. Out of interest, is it possible for you to identify which cab I'm on and where that cab is located? I'm thinking that if that information is available, I could perhaps keep an eye on it to see when it suddenly grows substantially in size thus indicating the arrival of FTTC equipment.

BE3G - you're cab won't grow in size, it will get another cab somewhere in close proximity which will be bigger and contain the dslam. For my cab they located the new one across the street next to some big bushes to blend it in.... thoughtful of them  Smiley. This openreach doc (1.63MB) http://www.openreach.co.u...scription%20Issue%204.pdf has a nice piccie in it of how it works.

I notice Dave, in there it talks about "upto" 15Mbps upload being available. Woo hoo, that's quick, I didn't notice if it was a chargeable extra.
