Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

I still want to know what happened on Wednesday at 4pm. I have always had sub 14ms pings to the Plusnet London servers and places like the BBC. On Wednesday it jumped by about 3ms and has remained there ever since. Luckily I had enabled the thinkbroadband latency monitor earlier in the week which captured the evidence. I've rebooted by router and been on a number of difference gateways and it is totally consistent.

I'd also like to know why average latency increases so much in the evening. Last night I had all PC's turned off by 6pm as I was out for the evening.

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

Wish I could understand those technical details, but I don't really (though I am learning) - so I'd like to thank you all for the investigative work you boffins are doing.  I can see that there ARE problems, such as documented in the graphs in the previous post... this has saved my sanity!
PN have essentially stonewalled me by suggesting first that my equipment was at fault; then following that, that my current terribly slow download speeds are "normal". However, as I keep optimistically pointing out to them, "normal" before - and for a number of years - has been orders of magnitude faster. Downloading activities which I previously gave little thought to have become ridiculously time consuming - I wish I could get them just to acknowledge this fact alone.
Anyway, thanks again, and I'm watching this thread with interest.

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

Bit of a difference between last night and this morning

I was thinking of migrating a few weeks ago but things improved so I hung on but looks like it's on the slide again, I was debating the other day about what to do maybe this is the final nail in the coffin

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

I'm on a pro account and getting usenet speeds of around 25kB/s - the worst I've seen for weeks (gateway thn-ag3). Whats gone wrong?
Edit: my speed tests are reasonable but usenet has stopped completely now

Looks like it's this http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1265376647.htm  just applied for my mac too, we'll see how it goes, although I have to say that last night my speedtests were low as well, no fluctuations just as though the line had been capped

Almost definitely because of this.

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

Me too. I've been given the run around for three months. PN refuse to acknowledge my service has been seriously degraded - first they blame my router etc for the degradation - then they try to maintain that my current service is normal. Hey guys, there's a contradiction there.

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

Despite having an open support ticket since mid-December after my broadband inexplicably dropped down to 0.3meg, no thanks to PlusNet's support it solved itself after a few weeks
I had a BT line problem last week, amazingly they gave reqally good service and an engineer fixed it within 24 hours, problem was it appeared to knock my broadband out of sync, my broadband is now running at

Its been like this for several days, and I've jumped through all the hoops you have to jump through for support
When I run the BT Speedtester, it doesn't recognise a problem, because it says:
"Download speed achieved during the test was - 132 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4512 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps"
I now seem to be in the never ending loop of support, and if its anything like December's problem I may be in for a long haul, except I won't because I cba with this every month

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

MAC codes all the way.  Enough is enough.  Another decent ISP gone to the wall
