How long from requesting MAC to final bill

« on 19/11/2009, 21:24 »
IF i was to request a MAC code how long between using it and having to pay the charges for activation would there be? Would the activation charges be on the final bill? Also, If i only cancelled broadband would I still be able to keep my phone line? Thanks in advance.

Did you migrate in using a MAC code from another ISP using a BT wholesale based service?

If so there is no activation charge.

I am not sure about that.
If you migrate in using a MAC now there is a £30 activation charge unless you stay for more then 12 months. http://www.plus.net/suppo...ro/value_faq.shtml#value4

4. How much does it cost to move to Plusnet?

There is a setup charge of £30. There may be other costs if your line is with a provider other than BT. If you're not sure, give our sales team a call on 0845 140 0200 and we'll be able to confirm.
I have no idea how that affects customers who migrated in before the new Terms and Conditions came in.

I was originally with Tiscali and think I did need a MAC code. As far as i'm aware I'd have to pay the £30 activation but thats not the issue, I'm wanting to know when this would have to be paid and would I still be able to keep my phone line with PN? I wouldn't want to leave on a bad note but i'd like to know the answers before I make a final decision.

Hi there,

You currently have deferred fees for setup and hardware. If you migrate elsewhere they would be taken once the final bill is produced (once the MAC has been used).

If you move your broadband to another BT Wholesale based provider you'd be able to keep your phone with us.

Before all that though, is there anything I can do to help? Any particular reason you're looking to leave?

I didn't get hardware apart from a router that Jameseh had sent out presuming the router was at fault and i could happily return that if need be. It not just the issues in the thread jelv has pointed out that are making me unsure of what to do, its also that i wouldn't be able to go onto ADSL2 next year when it becomes available because i wouldn't be able to stay on unlimited and the new premium package is no good for me at 80GB a month, i realise that sounds selfish but its fact i'm afraid and the cappings on unlimited are quite harsh in comparison to Premium. I know i could do my downloading at night but this means leaving on my PC overnight and i don't wish to do that, as a single mother i like to try save money where i can. Hope you can understand my issues, yes jelv, i'm not a him  Tongue

When you say i could keep my phone line with PN if i stay with a BT wholesale based provider does that mean if i went to someone like...lets say o2 i wouldn't be able to just have my phoneline with PN and my broadband with o2?  Undecided

Well, you've really done it now haven't you. Yes I am annoyed. Just tried requesting my MAC code and got told i have to pay 70 stupid quid all because you 'tried' to help and sent me a sodding router that i havent even used so now im stuck til february. Thanks. Well, i've got to give it to you, you sure know how to tie people in without telling them. Never once did i get told id have to pay for the router if i left within the 12 months, and £40 for that rubbish thing... my original router aint worth that much and it does adsl2, yours doesn't. I think it's cheeky and frankly if i had decided to stay now that someone has decided to tell me you COULD in fact put me on adsl2 next year for free and on my unlimited package, I wont be. As soon as i can go, im off. I need to save money and can get faster net for cheaper, and can, sorry you ruined that for me COULD HAVE GOT  my first 3 months free and you've just made that impossible for me. So, not only does it feel no-one can be bothered answering my questions correctly, or speedily anymore, you also don't tell me when you re-tie me in. Thanks.

Hi there,

I'm sorry you're not happy about the way things have been handled.

The deferred contract is standard when we send out hardware, and relates to the router we sent you on signup, not the one that James sent.

You were notified of the terms of this, in actual fact we said you would be held to an 18 month contract, which was then changed with the notifications sent in September this year.

Nevertheless, I'm sorry that it's led to you feeling even more unhappy.

I did  NOT get a router when  i signed up. i will happily pay the £30, i expected that but i am using my own original Belkin router I had before i joined Plusnet, I did NOT request one at sign up nor did I get one. Im even less happy with the way things have been handled now that its taken almost 9 hours for a response. The reason i did not take the router was because i had to pay the postage on it AND i had a fully functioning one. I did not get your router
