Trying to download the latest firmware for the PS3 and the speed is terrible.  My speedtests are all fine, up there in the normal range of 5.5 - 5.9Mb yet the actual download from the PSN site http://uk.playstation.com...-features-%28ver-3-10%29/ is topping out at a whopping 80kB/s.  So, according to Firefox, it's going to take nigh on an hour to download a measly 200MB (ish) file.

Surely that can't be right in this day and age!

It's because it's coming from a download server so it's heavily throttled at this time of night. Add on all the other millions of PS3 users.
It's a PITA that it's compulsory. After midnight it will fly

On the PC download I'm at 137MB, it's taken 55 minutes to do that - 8 to go apparently.

I'm downloading to the PS3 wirelessly....20% so far.

It took about 2 hours to get to 30% so I cancelled it.

Strange, although mines now settled down at the low 90's. I'm on the unlimited package like yourself adie.

It's possible I had other activity interfering with it, however I've missed my window now, SWMBO has commandeered the TV - so will have to update tomorrow

Here's what I don't get with the download speeds I get from my PS3 when the connection is being throttled; I'm currently downloading the update, its only done 12% in about 30 minutes.  But if I download from my laptop it comes down at over 500K a sec??  Why is it so slow from the PS3?   I'd expect the download traffic to be the prioritised the same whether coming from the PS3 or laptop?

Out of peak hours the PS3 downloads fine (700-800K a sec) it's only when it's throttled that it's really bad.  Obviously it should be slower due to the downloads being prioritised but why the difference between PS3 and laptop?  I suppose it's possible the download could be coming from a different server, one being accessed via the PS3 and one from the link on the website?

It would be quicker for me to download it to a flash drive via my laptop and transfer it to the PS3 but why should I have to mess about.

Hmmm.
3.1 installed and played Need for Speed.
PS3 crashed on boot up....and had a sound issue (distortion) towards the end of my game.
Will keep an eye on this
