PN speed Profile stuck.

« on 07/11/2009, 22:01 »

After noticing the steady decrease in performance of my connection I made some changes last week, i.e. rerouted extension cables upgrade microfilters and removed ring wire from extension for ADSL which improved my sync speed from just over 2000kbps to 4096 kbps, its taken five days and several steps for bt to raise my BRAS profile from 2000 up to 3500, but its now been at that for 3 days.  PlusNet however have completely failed to notice and my PN profile is 'stuck' at 2500.  I've raised a ticket last night but still no human intervention, automated tests were unable to be completed and so inconclusive. (ticket no. is 30659946 ),  Perhaps by posting on here I can get someone to have a look at the situation and raise my PN profile to where it should be.

TIA

It should happen automatically, but sometimes they do get stuck. As P-P has mentioned a member of the comms team may not pick this up until Monday. There is also some evidence that the data is getting delayed or out of date as I have posted in another thread.

Hi Avulon

I've updated this for you, You may want to soft disconnect and reconnect to get the new profile in place Wink
TBH, if you know that the problem is with the PN account profile, it's better to resolve it in a call than a logging fault.

Hi RamiDoodle,

Thank you very much, I've done a 'soft' disconnect and reconnect, and am now getting 3217kbps  Smiley as reported by 'My Broadband Speed'. which is a ~50% better than before.  I'll take your advice in future and make a call should it (PN profile) get stuck at a low speed again.  Quick question though, why is my BRAS profile at 3500 when I've now been connected for a week nearly at 4096? doesn't this qualify for the next level?

Anyway, I'll monitor this (IP profile and PN profile)  more closely from now on.

Thanks once more

Avulon.

Hello!
your IP profile will be changed to 4000 only if you can get a sync rate of 4544  or higher. you've already disconnected the ring wire. one more thing we can do, changing the SNR to 6 so that your sync rate will be round 5000. I can request this for you but we need to wait for 3 days first to prove that your connection is stable.

Hi,

Ok, that's no problem then.  Not sure if we can get the SNR as low as 6, it has been varying throughout the past week so I think that part has been working O.k. It started at 12 last friday and did come down to 8 if I remember correctly but has since risen back to 11.5.  So maybe there's not much more we can get out of it.
The speed difference between ~2200 and 3217 is a huge improvement; I'm actually seeing that when site response is slow it's due to the server and not my connection.  Thanks once Again.

What would be the best time to sync to the exchange?   I seem to have hit my max at a 4000k ip profile.  I have seen it at 6k plus in the past, no big deal if I can't get it any higher

Needs to be an hour and a half after sunrise or same before sunset for safety to give the best chance, but post your current Router ADSL stats and i would be able to give more precise advise.

If you were running routerstats which draws a graph of your noise margin you'd know exactly why he suggests that! It tends to drop late afternoon and rise again towards 9am.

They are the best times to reboot as the background noise from streetlights and other electrical devices is normally lower.

I did make a typo in my post though which has caused the confusion, It should have read BETWEEN those times.
