Why do my speeds vary so much?

Thanks Pierre_pierre, mine is too at the moment. I doubt that will be the case for long though. It seems very erratic.

If the problem is that video streaming / progressive downloads is being throttled at busy periods (which I think is the case) do Plusnet offer an account where that doesn't happen?

Paul.

I'm totally baffled by the product range. The Pro account says that everything has no restrictions, but it's only  20Gb limit.

The account I'm on (Premier option 1) has the same limit but it only applies between 4pm and midnight. It also states the following...

"We set speed restrictions on certain types of Internet activities, so that real-time activities such as gaming, broadband phone calls and video streaming don't slow down as a result of heavy network traffic." So according to that video streaming shouldn't slow down.

Looking at the account specs https://portal.plus.net/s...archive/bb_premier1.shtml it's hard to know if pro will offer a faster delivery of video or not.

Premier will prioritise streaming traffic if it recognises it as streaming traffic. Pro prioritises all traffic.

What does a Wireshark capture say when you're having problems?
