Constant disconnects

« on 01/11/2009, 16:30 »
Whats going on Plusnet?
Been on Vent playing Battlefield 2 for the past hour, getting disconnected from both every 10 minutes or so. My connection keeps dropping, seriously annoying. Any reason? Make it stop!

Hi,

Is that using your master socket or have you gone back to your extension again?

Do you notice any noise when a telephone is plugged in?

No im using the extension again but my phone lines are perfectly fine, the internet has been great lately except some evenings but I understand that was plusnet so yeah my side everything has been fine only until last night I was getting disconnected all the time, those logs are from my router but I made a ticket aswel and they shown me there logs, and apparently from your end I never did get disconnected once.
So the guy reckons its this new router is faulty (its only a week old from plusnet)
So if its a faulty router, ive asked them to send me a new one and il send this one back, will see what he says

I think it's your internal wiring personally.

It is possible that the router is faulty, so it's a fairly sensible suggestion.

Could you give the guys dealing with my ticket a poke please
I cant say for 100% can I but Im sure, and the BT engineer was 99% sure the internal wiring at my house is perfectly fine, beyond fine infact. Its that perfect. Theres no problems here.

I thought you'd already said that they were sending you a replacement router?

Actually no its not a replacement router, Ive only ever had one router from you (Which is this one Im using now, they sent it me about one week ago) I was always using my own in the past.

I had a similar problem with a new Thomson router. I reinstated the old one and the connection was rock-solid again.

My speed seems constant apart from around 8pm GMT which I suppose must be 'peak-time'. At this time the speed is up & down like a whore's drawers. I suspect it is this fluctuation which caused the new router to reset itself; at other times it seemed to work ok.

Well I was using a 2Wire 1800 router but it was old, and eventually found out it was giving me problems. Pings from PC to the router were crazy, this new thomson one has removed that problem but it seems to like disconnecting me quite often Smiley I really cant win in the internet world. Tell Plusnet to send me a decent router =)

Hi Lee,

I've replied to your ticket.

I've arranged for a returns bag to be sent with a replacement router.  I'm not convinced that the router is at fault, unless it's a dodgy ethernet port / network card as we're not seeing dropping connections, but it's best to be safe than sorry.

(Deleted that, made no sense. Second attempt!)

If it was only my computer losing connection, then I could look at my network card / ethernet lead / port etc but its not (proof in the logs)
The fact that my router is telling me in the router logs that the router is disconnecting (Like what I copy/pasted) then it has to be the router surely, because yeah how would my network card be able to disconnect the router. Even if there was nothing plugged into the router (Ethernets) Im pretty sure the router would have still disconnected with the linestate down messages.
I could plug my ethernet lead in and out of the router all day, losing connection with my pc yeah but it wouldnt effect the routers connection to the internet =)
Makes sense to me, I blame the router!

leeanthony,

Based on your earlier post, I'd say you're correct - it seems as though the router is dropping the DSL connection - why this wouldn't show up on PN's end is a mystery to me, however...
