« on 12/10/2009, 21:57 »
cmon guys, had lower pings on tiscali, letting my war mates down Sad

Yesterday and every night before tonight 25~ to the war server... tonight... get lower pings on dial up.

Was there something up with BT or so?

There shouldn't be any problems looking at the packet drop graphs for this evening. That's assuming of course that the game you're playing has been prioritised correctly on our network. It might be worth running a Wireshark capture to make sure the traffic's getting detected as it should.

It seemed to just be a problem with servers hosted abroad. I hopped on a couple of uk hosted servers and ping etc was completely fine. Then hopped onto a french one and ping was silly again.

Fingers crossed its back to normal again tonight. If not I will do some wireshark thingys

Again tonight ping is pants, was good on Tuesday night but poor again tonight, as suggested above I did a wireshark capture and I don't think my gaming traffic to our war server is getting prioritised correctly? I am on Pro btw (View attachments).
The traffic the ventrillo server is getting prioritised correctly

I still get very good throughput so I don't quite understand why its just suddenly gone poop. plusnet speed test thing is pushing 4000kbps down when normally it would average 6000kbps, but I guess 4000kbps is more than enough for counter-strike.

I really don't like to moan, honest....

Doesn't look like it is (I'd expect the TOS marking to be 0xa0 assuming 85.190.11.24 is the gaming server you're connected to). Having said that, it's still in the 'Gold' queues but things like this might have been having an impact of late.

Raise a ticket containing details about the game and the problems you're having and attach the Wireshark capture and we should be able to change the prioritisation.

Again this morning ping is crazy - more up and down than an old person with incontinence..
I believe however the problem with prioritising my traffic has been fixed.

Is this a plus net problem? -  trace to the server I was playing on below, always get a really low ping on this popular public (normally)
Tracing route to eu-lon-bs-DediFrag.com [77.74.199.17]

Please advise if there is anything I can do to improve my in game pings. Speed test and download speeds are fine. I understand you do have capacity problems of some kind? I can't be the only gamer that is being put off by this?? (unless it is just a problem with my line?)

Yikes, found myself downloding wireshark to begin another 15 squillion hours of analysis.  Then thought.. why!!  It's not for me to do this.  Maybe if I wasn't paying £20pm.

15 squillion hours of analysis
60 seconds if that more like. you only have to have wireshark runing for a few seconds why you playing on the COD server. if your like my self and came to plusnet for the gaming prioity they give then like my self you shouldnt see being able to check what prioity game has on the PN network a pain but more of a blessing.

i for one wouldnt like to be with an isp that you had no idea how they was treating your time senstive traffic

haha indeed, I know plusnet are working hard to resolve the capacity issues, I just want consistent low ping, decent speed internet for gaming, I would happily pay more than £20 for this, but right now I try playing and just get frustrated with high ping spikes and then ragequitting. I had considered asking if I could switch to value until plusnet have sorted their issues. High ping on pro, so no doubt higher ping on value, I don't play when I have a high ping (just get frustrated and ragequit) so I would only be saving myself some money, right? - but obviously I do have a lot of faith in plusnet sorting any issues out in the very near future, as per their service status updates, which really do help me understand the situation. So really I am just having a moan, I guess that is what customers do best.

Once again, this evening ping was up and down more times than... I dunno but I am tired of moaning.
Can you just block all p2p and bit torrent during peak times so I can actually get a decent consistent ping during peak times? - I don't want to play games at 3am in the morning.

I know you have problems, but it is starting to bore me.

At the moment it is like I am paying £20 for the privilege of moaning like an old woman on this forum.

If you are not confident in fixing your problems in the next few weeks is there any chance you can step me down to value or something so I can save some money?

I am starting to regret signing up for plus net when they did these long contracts.

The current network problems shouldn't really be affecting gaming performance unless some of the traffic is getting incorrectly assigned to the Gold instead of the Titanium traffic queues. That's why we need Wireshark captures really, the sooner we know about any problems, the sooner we can fix them.

It may be that traffic for some of these games has been in the Gold queues for a while but people just haven't noticed problems because traffic in this queue is normally on a close par with Titanium (something which isn't the case at the moment due to the situation with the network).

Stinga you'll notice plenty of people (including myself) are having serious ping problems with online games during the evening.
Apart from doing wireshark captures the best we can do is wait untill they update the network to plan A, which apparently might not happen until next week now as far as I can tell.

Had bad pings and instablity in COD4 and WoW. Provided with a Winshark and they said that the traffic was wrong, week later and still nothing. Starting to really get me angry now just thinking about it, I feel your pain trust me. Went from BT with 70ms to Plusnet with 150ms, so damn frustrating. Also when I first join a COD4 game my ping is 50-60, then it just shoots up to 150 and stays there.
