problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

pcl-ag04
sync: 7616000
stable rate: 6500
snr: 15.5
loop atten: 9dB
exchange: green
Interleave on (according to my router )
legacy BB+
usage this month: Peak ~100MB Off:~12MB
Very poor responses on pcl-ag04: impossibly slow browsing, so ran a couple of BBMAx speedtests: 357 down/  97 up & 348 down / 365 up
then gateway hopped to thn-ag3: 5979 down / 372 up
Had this last night as well, at about the same time, but even slower c. 127 down / 80 up, but later without a hop it improved (still on ag04) to 5900ish

Re: problem with pcl-ag04?

Hi Paul,
We're certainly not aware of any issues specifically affecting that gateway.  Bob's going to mention it in our daily operational review though to see if anyone else if aware of any problems.

Re: problem with broadband speeds ...

Ok just got home today, Tuesday 22nd, broadband crawling, still on thn-ag3, all stats as in OP but BBMAX shows 260 down / 373 up.
so it's not a pcl-ag04 specific problem, but ... there is a problem.
sigh

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

umm there's a pattern emerging -- early evening Weds and i've got 274 down /  370 up using BBMAX speedtester and browsing is swamp-slow ... but a BT speedtest shows this :
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4808 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7616 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

Same here, speeds are non-stop up and down!  With gateway hopping or not, no matter what time of day or night, the speeds are up and down like the proverbial whore's drawers.

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

and again tonight at 18:30ish , very slow browsing, a very slow BBMAX speedtest (351 down / 368 up) and yet a BT Speedtest giving 5499
I'm confused -- and will raise a ticket, fwiw

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

I think I'm starting to see an increasing number of people complaining about congestion, and I don't think it's our network.

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

Can't see anything untoward with either of your accounts at a glance and there are no problems reported at your exchanges. @paulh, you might want to try rebooting your current session is almo0st a week long according to our RADIUS servers.

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

I'll do that Bob, adding these comments:
Generally I boot the router up and it stays on and logged on the same session unless the exchange disconnects or there's a power glitch; Overall I'm lucky enough to have a very very stable line only a few hundred metres from the exchange. I've clocked up sessions weeks (perhaps months) long in the past without experiencing problems of this nature .
Also worth remembering that I have tried gateway hopping to resolve this a few times and the difficulty has returned.

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

Speed is absolutely dreadful now.  It's been OK all through the day, and yet now bizarrely at 01:00 it drops to unusable speeds.  This is getting beyond a joke now, when are Plusnet going to admit there's a problem somewhere and get it looked into and sorted out?
It's so slow and sluggish that I can't even get the PN Portal to open so I can log-in and check what gateway I'm on.  Not that that should matter, the service we pay for should be constant across the board!
What's worse is that I schedule my larger downloads for this time of niight as to avoid using great chunks of my download limit, and as of right now I can't do that!

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

I'm still experiencing problems and CSC say there is a possible identified problem.
They've asked me to plug the router into the test socket and then call them  ... trouble is I have no test socket in my master socket.
I asked what they would like me to do next (at 18:15 on Tuesday) and so far have received no response or answer.

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

have you tryed dismanteling your set up (unpluging every port and power points even mouse etc) and rewiring everything and resetting router
