Outlook Express - connect error 10060', Port: 110

« on 06/10/2009, 22:28 »

I am having problems sending and receiving mail via Outlook Express. I am using XP with Avast free antivirus. (although it does not appear with the e mail problem to make any difference if this is on or off)

The message I am receiving is:

The server responded with an error. Account: 'Kiasu', Server: 'mail.plus.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 81.8.159.212 (81.8.159.212:110), connect error 10060', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

This is only intermittant. Sometimes it is fine, other times it does not send/receive.

However, if I disconnect my router and reconnect it again, all is fine and e mail sends and receives.

I have never had this problem in the past, have been using the same setup/login details for years now without a problem until this started about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Its really driving me crazy!

Have raised it with Plusnet as a ticket but not yet had any useful advice. While e mail is not working, I can browse the web and use Plusnet webmail without a problem.

Plusnet did give me instructions of how to: 'There is a quick way to check that you are using the right password and username, by connecting to the internet and using a program called a telnet client.' However, even when e mail was working fine, I could not get this to work.

How can I tell if this is a problem my end or with Plusnet please?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

That seems strange, it's got the correct mail server address and the IP address is ours (although for some reason in reverse!).

Have you tried deleting and recreating your mail account in Outlook? You should be able to do this without deleting your emails.
