Question Thread

Is anyone using a Zyxel Prestige 660 (specifically, P66R-61C, firmware version V3.40(UH.3) 8/10/2005)? The Prestige 660H is listed at http://www.plus.net/suppo..._guide/adsl2+_faq.shtml#8 , but I don't think it's quite the same. The box says it does ADSL 2+, but my line has been all but dead for a few days now, since the day I was due to be switched to 21CN. It was working at 228kbps (sic) download this morning, but wouldn't come back up after a modem reset.

Reading http://www.plus.net/suppo...guide/adsl2+_faq.shtml#13 this seems the best place to report this. Is that right?

Is  Jameseh on holiday? Does anyone reading this know when he'll be back?

Seriously though, I'm afraid that I've no knowledge of the device that you're trying to use.

We're looking at sorting out a list of compatible hardware for ADSL2+ once the trial ends.

We can probably come to an arrangement if you'd like us to send one of our Thomson routers out to you?

That'd be great, could you do that please?
I also wondered if you might be off sick since there's a nasty cold going round at the moment. Glad that's not the case. Thanks for your help.

Sorry Smiley  I saw this thread yesterday, but hadn't replied as I didn't know the answer and thought that someone else might have had a better idea than I.

As long as you don't mind sticking with us for another 12 months I'll send you out a router free of charge.

I'm using a ZyXEL Prestige P660HW-61 - not quite the same model, but pretty close. The spec. I'm seeing is as follows

System Name: P660HW
ZyNOS F/W Version: V3.40(PE.11) | 05/22/2006
DSL FW Version:TI AR7 05.01.03.00
Standard:ADSL2+

(This is obtained via the System Status menu entry under Maintenance once you log on to the router.)

I'm fairly sure that all the ZyXEL P660 models can handle ADSL2+. (When I got my router it had 2005 firmware and the box already said it could do ADSL2+.) Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way to force the router to use one mode in preference to another - at least not without going into command line mode. From the Web interface it looks like the router just automatically picks ADSL2+ if it's an available option on the line. That's what happened when I joined the trial.

You're getting a new router, so what the ZyXEL does may not be relevant for long - but you might want to check whether you get similar info from your router before you make the switch.

My Line is still down since starting the trial and move on the 30th as well. your not in the hampshire area are you?

Seems the current reason is BT have pulled out the plug but not put it back again........... and its a wait until Monday now...

Has anyone used the Draytek 2820 with this connection?

OK, the new router has arrived and is installed and working OK. The download speed is 220kbps or so, less than the upload speed, oddly. I suppose this will improve over the next few days? Will this happen by itself or do you or BT need to take any action? The IP profile is set at 250Kbps. Do I need to supply all the information in http://community.plus.net...ex.php/topic,79756.0.html ? It seems a little excessive in this case, but I'm happy to if that's what's needed.

Nah, you shouldn't need to.

Have you checked your connection speeds (rather than the profile)?

I've used the BBC speed checker and the BT speed checker. The BT checker says I'm getting 150Kbps, but I'm getting real downloads that are faster than that (IIRC).  The modem says it's connecting at 447/228 in Broadband Connection | DSL Connection.

Right ok - You're on a 160-288Kbps banded profile.

If you maintain a stable service for 3 days, you should see a considerable improvement.

Three full days or part days? i.e. will it work on Thursday or Friday, all being well?
