Question Thread

Hi James

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

So your saying I'm not going to get much more than 6Mbps at best and at rhe moment I'm getting exactly the same profile on ADSL2+ that I had on ADSL that can't be right can it?

It means I was getting 68% of the maximum on ADSL but on ADSL2+ I'm only getting 27% of the maximun. How are Plusnet going to be able to sell this to people. You tell them it's an upto 20Mbps product and they find it no faster than what they had before. It looke to me as if you take this to market and it performs like this it could kill Plusnet's reputation compleatly. You might be better waiting for FTTC to arrive if ADSL2+ is this usless.

Is there anything I can try to help speed up my downstream sync rate?

Colin

Hi Colin,

My parents have gone from 818Kbps to, er, 8000Kbps.

ADSL2+ is great for some people, but for others there can be no increase or even a decrease in speed.

the best thing that you can do is to ensure that your internal wiring is sound (router into master socket via filter, all used sockets filtered) and make sure that your hardware is working fine.

We're expecting to place the remainder of our trialist orders next week.

Is there any update on this yet.  I have not been informed of an order being place yet.

I have been on the trial for a couple of weeks and the modem is sync'd at just over 14000 however download measured by mybroadbandspeed is around 6600 upload around 10xx.
Does something need to be tweaked somewhere to get a higher download speed.
Currently at work so cannpot check the settings directly.

Hi Andy,

I've just amended your line profile to 12000Kbps.

If you reboot your router when you can, you should notice an improvement.

Tilt!

Given the number of trialists reporting problems I'm not sure I'd be in a hurry to be upgraded!

I am seriously wondering about a permanent opt out on the lines of the LLU opt out  Undecided

I opted out both the LLU and maxdsl upgrades last time. That's the reason that I went on to this trial to increase my upstream speed. I must be fortunate as I've not experience the problems of some of the others. From memory the maxdsl switch over was a nightmare for a majoity of users.

DownStream Connection Speed     14379 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed    1251 kbps

Today 18:11     8699 kbps (1.09MB/s)     1067 kbps (133kB/s)
Today 18:10    9196 kbps (1.15MB/s)    1071 kbps (134kB/s)

That looks a bit better - cheers - will see how it settles down

To be honest with you up until about 2 weeks ago I was on LLU and it was fantastic, for the first 2 years or so it was running using ADSL2+ giving me reasonable good speeds, also there was never any profiling problems, and the SNR was set soldid at 6db download on Interleaved and 9db upload.  Well that was until I have a line fault which after raising a ticket messed up all my settings.  But before that I was very stable and quick, I have since been moved off LLU about 2 weeks ago, syncing a little slower and downloading between .5 and 1 mb slower as a result of the 512k profiling chuncks.

I am just hoping that ADSL2+ may bring me back to the LLU performance that I had before, if not I think I would consider moving to another LLU supplier.

@ Jim

It's an opt-in service, so there's no point in having an opt-out.

your line is currently profiled to 5500Kbps in accordance with a resync event at 6240Kbps on the 23rd.

We're also profiling your line @ 5.5Mbps.

The email refers to a "rough estimate" on what profile speed you should be able to get.  On your current sync speed, your profile should eventually increase to 6Mbps.

Hi James

How long does the line traiming period Last? I thought mine was over but yesterday when I turned on my router the downstream sync had gone up to 8291 Kbps and today it’s 9546 Kbps. This is after spending nearly the whole training period at 6653Kbps strange.

I was wondering if my profile had changed at all. BT’s site keeps reporting busy so I can’t look at that and I sill haven’t found a way to get at Plusnet's profile via MAAF’s website. So I've got to pester you again sorry.

Hi Colin,

Don't worry, I'm used to being pestered Wink

The profile hasn't changed yet I'm afraid, but hopefully it will soon!

Hi James

I don't know how long the training period lasts but it's been well over 10 days and my downsream sync is now 9870 Kbps & upstream is 1056 Kbps. the last three days has seen it leap up from 6653 Kbps. I just whish I could work out why. I've done nothing at all my end.

My BT profile is now 8000 Kbps. Did you change anything on monday? Has my profile gone up at your end as well?
