Do you live in the exchange?!  How much do they cost to rent? Cheesy

If you don't get the full speed on ADSL2+ I'll eat Matt's hat.

I don't live in the exchange, but I live close (probably <100yds).  I'm blessed with relatively new under-pavement wiring, too,  unlike some neighbours nearby.

Using a standard BT NTE5 faceplate and El Cheapo phone extension wiring to my modem/router, I got "Line Att." of 6dB and "SNR Margin" of 17dB.  Upgrading the wiring/faceplate (roughly £15 from ADSL Nation) cut the Line Att figure to 0dB and SNR Margin increased to 18dB (which I gather are both slight improvements).

Don't think I could squeeze anything more out of my 8meg max connection (short of paying extra for AnnexM uploads or whatever it's called), which is nice to know.

That's good to know.  Would that be Matt Francis, by any chance?  (Shared a house with him back in the day, think he got a job with you guys and ISTR he did wear a hat from time to time.)

Now I just have to endure the long wait for 21CN to arrive at my exchange...  SamKnows shows 21CN PSTN switchover target as Q4 2009 but 21CN WBC Status just above it on the page is 'Not Available', so not sure what to make of that.   Huh?

Nope.  I *think* Matt Francis worked here ages ago.  Not in my time though.

I was on about Matt Taylor (Orbrey), who sits next to me.

I'm not sure when your exchange is likely to be upgraded, we're waiting on the next batch of scheduled exchanges from BT.

Aha, thanks.  Well count me in for the trial if it's still running when my exchange goes live!   Grin

We'll need you to raise a ticket via http://trials.plus.net once your exchange is upgraded (or rather has an upgrade date Smiley

We're currently only accepting trialists whose exchanges go active on or before March 31st.

I was just checking which gateway I'm connected  using PUG and to and to my horror I got the following

You are currently connected to the "Telehouse North, LLU" gateway. This gateway is sometimes known as thn-ag2.

If you are on this gateway, you are on the Tiscali LLU Platform.

When i was on adslmax it was a BT iPstream same gateway (not LLU)

I realise that some customers were moved over to LLU a few years back but I was not one of them and if memory serves me migration to LLU was problematic to say the least

I'm not a fan of Tiscali last I heard they were struggling and looking for a buyer

My local exchange hosts most of the LLU providers  did openreach wire me up to the wrong DSLAM ie Tiscali instead of theirs or is BTO assimilating Tiscali equipment and adding it to there network.

I had a chat with CS and was told that I was on BT21CN and not Tiscali LLU  It was late and I just need a second opinion.

Could somebody put my mind at rest

See replies 35 to 38 in this thread. thn-ag2 is being used for the 21CN trial as well as for Tiscali LLU customers.

Hi ctech,

You're not on Tiscali LLU.

As mentioned above, we're currently using that gateway for the trial.

Hi James,

Thanks for your reassurance.

I should have read the thread fully,

Can a upper threshold be set on a 2+ connection so that it does not attempt to go any higher 1.4 Mbps for example as it seems to be that my line goes nuts if the BT machinery tries to force more data down and 1.4 is quite acceptable to me.

I really wouldn't have thought so.

Bear in mind that the DLM is far more "intelligent" than it is on IPSM, so whilst there might be a small period of instability, the long run should see the best speed calculated for your line.

Hope so.

Any kind of advice on what activities to use the connection for/avoid during the training process so thhat the MSR is as high as possible.

For example, would it be a good idea to use a lot of streaming during that time so that the data rate is fairly stable?

Mitch,

It's nothing to do with what you're doing with the internet connection.  It's down to the connection synchronisdation and noise margin more than what you do with it.

I was wondering if any on-line gamers were on the trail and if so whether they had their interleaving on or off.
I can't be sure but mine is on well at least my router informs me that interleave depth is 64 DS and
My router is very stable my noise margin is an average 6.8db and my attenuation is 40

interleaving was switched off when I was on 20CN with little or no problems....any thoughts or advice

Just thought I'd ask as wondered if it monitored actual throughput too.
