I’ve just returned to PlusNet – which seemed to “tick all the boxes” for my broadband requirement.  However, there was an added bonus – Homephone – which I plan to subscribe to later in the year when my current contract with BT ends.

Looking through all the information available on this site, I perused the “Call Tariffs” pages – and there noticed the words “4.5p set up fee on non-inclusive calls”.  Can anyone explain what the phrase “non-inclusive” means?

The package I was planning to have is the “Evening & Weekends” – but need to understand the terminology, so that I can decide whether it’s as good as scheme as I originally thought.

Non-inclusive calls are anything outwith your package.

In other words, for the Evening and Weekend package that you're looking at, a non-inclusive call would be a call to an 01, 02 or 03 number outwith 18:00-08:00 Mon-Fri and 18:00 Fri - 08:00 Mon. Non-inclusive calls are also calls to mobiles, 0845, 0870, 118xxx, 09xxx etc. (i.e. anything that isn't 01,02,03).

The 4.5p connection charge (6p on BT) is applied to these "non-inclusive" calls.   You don't get charged the 4.5p connection cost for calls made to 01, 02 and 03 at evenings and weekends.

If an inclusive call (i.e. an 01,02 or 03 call made during the evening or at the weekend on the E+W package) goes over an hour you are not charged the 4.5p but are charged per minute for the time over an hour (same as with BT).

The same scenario applies to the Anytime+ package except that 01, 02 and 03 calls are inclusive 24/7.

Calls to 0800, 0500 and 0808 are always free.

"Evening and weekends product included calls are to standard UK landline numbers beginning with 01, 02 & 03. Evenings: 18:00-08:00 Mon-Fri. Weekends: 18:00 Fri - 08:00 Mon.

Therefore, non-inclusive calls are calls outwith those times.

Thanks for the replies – much appreciated.  I did wonder if the term meant what you’ve shown it to mean.  I’m trying to find the “best deal” – but most companies appear to add a charge for the connection on top of the actual call charge.  It’s “ma Scottish ancestry” (I’m a quarter-Scots on the maternal side) coming to the fore - and I have a lot of bawbees to look after!
