Many of you may be aware of the bright spark award, that some members of the community hold. The Bright Spark award was introduced to recognise posters who have helped other users and generally contributed to the overall community feeling on the forums. It may also help newcomers to the forum to identify posts from people who are seen to be helpful in the forums.
The bright spark award is intended as a award from your peers, however there haven't been many nominations of late so while there have been a couple of new "bright sparks" it is felt that there may be others within the community that have made contributions that should be recognised, but haven't been noticed / nominated.
You can find more information on the bright spark award on The UserTools Site.
If you have noticed anyone you feel should be recognised with the bright spark award, then please send a nomination to one of the moderators by private message. Otherwise, please keep your eyes peeled, for anyone that is consistently helpful and makes a positive contribution to the community!
If you have any questions about the bright spark award, please post them in this thread and we will do our best to answer them.

I think we have enough Bright Sparks. The ones already on the forums really know their stuff. Handing out the award by recognising smaller contribution might devalue the prestige of the award and the wonderful contribution the existing Bright Sparks have made.
Plus, surely having anymore Bright Sparks would be an unnecessary fire risk?

[quote=http://www.wordwebonline.com/en/BRIGHTSPARK]Noun: bright spark
1. Someone being or trying to be irritatingly clever; a smart alec
- smart-ass [N. Amer], smart-arse [Brit, Cdn], smartypants, smarty, smartie
Derived forms: bright sparks
Why do people want to malign those forum members who choose to help others with such a label?

Money Saving Expert forums have a button to click on to express thanks to a person who has posted a helpful message. Scores are kept for the number of thanks received and total posts. This seems a good idea though I suppose it doesn't weight the scores for recent posts so you couldn't tell if someone has been helpful in the past but less so now (or vice versa). However, it does show the degree of brightness of the spark. Would something of the sort be worth considering here?
