FRING - https://voip.plus.net/login/fring

I have got FRING up and running on my T Mobile Vario 3  Smiley, only works via WiFi because I am not on the W&W Plus package. It was fairly straight forward to set up.

Do you need to update contacts to include UK dialing code?

I have had Fring up and running for a week or so now (Vario 3), really impressive via wi-fi I would definitely recommend other users on the trail to give it a go. Smiley

The only small issue I had - I needed to update my contacts to include +44 (drop the 0).  Quality my end is very good, a slight echo on the person receiving the call other than that FAB!

How do you get fring working with plusnet sip on w960i?
So I clicked "manage communites". then i clicked "sip".
It prompts me for:

User-ID: which a believe is my sip2 account number... e.g. xxxx211@sip2.plus.net
Enter Password: my password
Sip server list: Other
SIP account: xxxx211

Is this correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has this trial got anywhere?  Can I sign up?

I'm out to the US this weekend and will get WiFi at hotel.  Would be nice to be able to use Fring to keep up with the family.

Login at voip.plus.net and go to the Account overview tab - you'll see the Fring advert there at the foot of the page, you'll then be prompted to fill in the web form and Fring will send you your software!

when I try to access this URL after logging in I get the message:

System Error
Sorry, the system has encountered an error: Country 'GB' not found.

Full details have been sent to our development team.

I can log into https://voip.plus.net and access my account but can't get to the fring URL, really want to give this a go on my iphone. Is anyone able to help? I have downloaded fring from itunes and installed it, connected to my other messengering services ok, just want to configure the SIP now. The options I have are username, password, and proxy. I have configured these as:

Username: [accountnumber]@sip.plus.net
Password: (same password used to access https://voip.plus.net)
proxy: natproxy.plus.net:5082

when I tap the logon button I just get a message "subscribing to SIP" and it just sits there

For iphone fring I used the following :

username :  number only  (6 digits beginning 2)
password: VOIP password
proxy:   sip2.plus.net

Good luck.

I've also just got PN VoIP working via Fring on my iPhone thanks to Raj  Smiley

The only thing I will say is that the username doesn't nesessary begin with a 2 and mine is 7 digits.  Use the 'Extension' number you see on your account overview page once logged in at http://voip.plus.net

I thought this would be interesting to try so I went to my voip login page but there is no advert for Fring. Is this only available to a limited number of broadband phone customers?

Theres a problem open on that at the moment - does seem to be an intermittent problem, i've counted 3 users who cant see what advert now. Try clearing cookies and cache and see if you can see it.

Could well be advert blocking software in your browser or Security Software.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security which includes an Adblocking element to it. I haven't checked recently, but I think that Fring advert is missing for me too (which is to be expected due to Kaspersky).

You might be able to create exceptions for pages that are allowed to show adverts, exceptions for certain ad providers etc.... or even turn off Ad blocking on a temporary or permanent basis, (depending on preference and settings).

Finding what software is blocking the ads could be fun though, if you are not aware what is doing it. I think some Browser Toolbars do it. As do specific browser plug-ins and some security packages.

Hope this helps.

Rich Mark, it might be worth checking  if this was the issue with others that had this problem, as it might not be a problem at your end at all. Of course, it might still be an anomily at your end too!

Mike

(Edited to change Mark to Rich, as I was clearly miles away in my mind when I posted this!)

Okay - just set up my new SIP account on my existing Fring install on N95.

Made a few test calls and on each occasion I have to let the phone ring 10 times. I then get a different ringing tone - having tested on my landline this is the point where my landline phone actually starts ringing. When I hang up my landline continues to ring a further 5 times before it stops.

Is this normal ?

Also, can I just double-check that I am correct to use;

1. Username: = 'my 7 digit SIP account number'@sip.plus.net
2. Password:= 'my password'
3. Proxy:= nat.plus.net:5082

[(1). I had to guess this as it wasn't clear in my email from plusnet showing my account details. (2.) and (3.) where from my account details email]

Reason I ask is (a) because of the problem described above and (b) various other posts here refer to 'sip2.plus.net'

Yes, your data is correct. sip2 is being phased out in favour of sip but at the moment both will work.
There is also a different outbound proxy which has been introduced recently, natproxy.plus.net which might be worth trying instead of the nat.plus.net.
