Webmail attachments

I am in the process of closing down my free accounts but still need to check what email comes in as some of my contacts still haven't updated their address books. Problem is that attachments cannot be opened or downloaded, specifically image files. I have to delete the messages I don't want, then change my account settings in OE to download the attachment, then change my settings again.

Why does this happen? Is it an inherent problem with webmail?

Cheers

Hi,
No! I dont think this is a problem with F9 web based mail but I do have a sneaking feeling that this IS an OE based problem or something to do with your account settings in OE. I would suggest that you take a very close look through your OE & OE account settings. I cannot see from what you described why you should have any problems with file attachments at all.

I'm sorry, I don't think you have got the gist of the question, it isn't an OE problem. When I visit Web mail and I have a message with an attatchment it cannot be viewed online, as I said, specifically pictures which appear as a red cross. To view the pictures I have to download them and view them in OE. SO you see, it is definitely not OE orientated because they are easily viewable in the preview pane when downloaded but NOT when online.

Hi again,
Ahh!! Now i understand your problem, I dont know why your having this problem. Yes! it does sound like a webmail based issue. Or it might possibly be a setting in your browser (IE or netscape, etc) which determines how images are displayed, also check your browsers file download settings too at the same time.

Hi Mark,

We do have an internal problem raised with our developers at present regarding attachments on the webmail.

Is it affecting all attachment types and all of your mailboxes or just some?

If you save the attachments do they open correctly or open with the wrong file association?

Have you tried more than 1 web browser? From a personal point of view I'd recommend trying Opera.

It happens on images, can't be too sure about other documents as it is a while since i've had others that weren't spam to download. I save them and they do open in the correct file extension, but images have the red cross in them. Again, it is fine if I forward it to my regular email address. I am using IE 6 and don't really want to have to chop and change between browsers.

Incidentally, when forwarding emails, it also removes the original senders email address, so I can't reply to them. It's not in the headers or anything. Why would it do this?

Cheers

According to the development team, a fix for this was rolled out last night? Is it still occuring?

I reported this problem to F9 a week or so ago and got an acknowledgement that they were on the case. In the meantime I found that the corruption on download didn't happen using the  Member Centre portal, only the Webmail one. I've checked recently and the problem has indeed been fixed.

I am now able to click on the link within the webmail to view the image, but if I forward the whole thing, the attachment doesn't come through to normal email.

Ahhh, a separate problem.

Just to confirm:

1. You view an email with an attachment in webmail
2. You press forward
3. You send the forwarded mail to someone else
4. The attachment isn't sent with the mail

Is that right?

That's correct. It worked before, but the fix for the other problem seems to have broken it  Sad
