Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

I've reported the FTTP issue to our suppliers.
We've identified on one of the interfaces (MPC) which isn't returning the correct response. I'm awaiting an update to the fix on this. I'll keep you posted as and when I get further information on this for you.

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

@ AndyH - Can you please try and run a Speed Test via the BT Speedtester and try entering your post code again please?

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

Hi Chris
I tried running it the first time and it accepted my postcode/house number ok. It then said running 'Tap - 1' tests (both download and upload) and after this, I got the attached error.
I tried a second time to use my postcode/house number and it worked fine (the Tap - 1 did not run, it went straight to the PT results).
Thanks

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

Thanks for running the test again for me.
It looks like progress to me. I've sent the error message screenshot over to them to try and shed some light on it for us.

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

Yep - it's definitely progress.
I've never seen it try to run a further TAP 1 test after submitting the postcode/address before. So hopefully it's just a gremlin in the system.
I did try a neighbour's address (he's with BT Retail) and got the following error (I know you won't be able to submit this to BTw but it's worth seeing if any other PN users get the same):

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

Thanks for the SS.
I've passed that onto them to look at a potentially bigger issue.

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

Yeah, there's an issue with the SAM MSE (A piece of equipment the Speed Tester depends on) Problem ID: 79777 (for tracking purposes).
I'm chasing BT about this.

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

Shall do, just waiting for them to e-mail me back.
Yeah if the traffic is heavy on the PT, the SAM can't cope with the traffic so it just throws up an error. I'll let you know when I get more details.

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

Yep, I saw that - I was following the thread at home that night Tongue
Thanks for the heads up though. I'll look at the TAP3 Issue when I get a bit of free time.

Re: BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test FTTC

Hi Chris
I think I have figured out the TAP3 test. I was below my speed threshold tonight, so ran the TAP3 test as per the instructions.
The automatically assigned DNS server for the speedtest@speedtest_domain account is 194.72.9.34. When you click go, the following page should load http://test3.speedtest.btwholesale.com/PerformanceTesterWS/indexTap3Frames.jsp?BBIP=&serviceId=BBEU1... , however the name is not resolving by the provided DNS server.
I ran some DNS lookups from telnet with my router (still using the BT test account) for test3.speedtest.btwholesale.com and also speedtest.btwholesale.com, but neither would resolve. I've attached some screenshots showing this and with my normal PN login details using OpenDNS.
If you manually put in the IP address, the TAP3 site also does not work even when using the test account.
I tried using DiG to see whether the DNS server was refusing the lookups, but it seems like it does not even get that far:
Quote
andrews-air:~ andrew$ dig @194.72.9.34 speedtest.btwholesale.com
; <<>> DiG 9.8.3-P1 <<>> @194.72.9.34 speedtest.btwholesale.com
; (1 server found)
;; global options: +cmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
andrews-air:~ andrew$ dig @194.72.9.34 test3.speedtest.btwholesale.com
; <<>> DiG 9.8.3-P1 <<>> @194.72.9.34 test3.speedtest.btwholesale.com
; (1 server found)
;; global options: +cmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

When I log back into my PN account, then I can query the DNS server - it just refuses my request:
Quote
andrews-air:~ andrew$ dig @194.72.9.34 test3.speedtest.btwholesale.com
; <<>> DiG 9.8.3-P1 <<>> @194.72.9.34 test3.speedtest.btwholesale.com
; (1 server found)
;; global options: +cmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: REFUSED, id: 31309
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 0, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0
;; Query time: 11 msec
;; SERVER: 194.72.9.34#53(194.72.9.34)
;; WHEN: Sun Mar 16 22:36:05 2014
;; MSG SIZE  rcvd: 12

Hopefully it's something simple and BTw can change some settings so things work again. There are a lot of people that need to run this test (as on the peak time slow down thread).
Thanks

Thanks Andy - that's really great stuff.
I'll pass this on to BT now and see what they say Smiley
