Changing Router IP and DHCP

Folks,
I'm a new user to Plus.Net and I've got one of the Technicolor ADSL/Routers.
I appreciate that it's configured to use 192.168.50.0/24 but I've a few devices that I need to connect up that are configured to 192.168.50.0/24
(my network printer for one).
I think I know what needs to be done on the router but would appreciate a second opinion:

  • Add 192.168.50.1 as a new internal IP address on the router.

  • Change internal DHCP Scope to cover 192.168.50.60 to 192.168.50.200

  • Restart the router.

  • Profit!

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to assume that the bit in blue above should have read 192.168.1.0?
What devices do you have and why do you want to retain them in the stated subnet range?  To be honest, messing with the router through the GUI can be tedious, especially changing the subnet range, DHCP and gateway details.  I have on several occasions sought to move the subnet to 192.168.0.0 and have found myself in a real pickle - the TG582n is not the most friendly of device interfaces compared to other routers in which doing as you want to do would be simple.
Personally with the TG582n I'd take the approach of altering the PRINTER (and other devices) configuration to either use a fixed IP address (below) .64 in the range 192.168.1.0 or to use DHCP and tell the router to always use the same IP for those devices.
HTH,
Kevin

In a nutshell, the procedure you've outlined is correct.
There's a useful guide on how to make changes you want here

Re: Changing Router IP and DHCP

That's a useful guide pwatson, it seems very comprehensive. Another way I've used to change the IP and DHCP pool to a .5.x subnet is to save the configuration to a file, and then edit all the 192.168.1.x to 192.168.5.x and then restore from the updated config file.
