hi,
in the last couple of weeks i've been getting Undeliverable responses
mainly when i put links to yahoo freecycle groups in them
sent both to a sky email account and a yahoo account
anyone any idea why this is happening? is it on the smtp or pop server?
if i remove the http bit then will send ok...
cheers

Re: getting a few Undeliverable responses

Hi bluewhale,
This sounds like an issue with spam filtering. Could you provide us with some of the links causing the issues please?

Re: getting a few Undeliverable responses

Do you get an error message similar to this?
Quote
The mail server responded:  BMUc1i0010c367G01MUjQx message rejected due to spam or virus.

If you do then raise a support ticket containing the content of one of these emails, the sender and recipient email addresses and the error string that's returned. That should give us all we need to go on. It's a little hard to be specific regarding the cause of your problem without a little more detail.

Re: getting a few Undeliverable responses

can someone look into this as i'd rather not raise a ticket as i suspect a generic problem with the smtp server
i'm not sure why we have antivirus scanning on outgoing email, is this something i can switch off?
anyway->
i've just reproduced with sending an email to myself with any subject,
BUT if has the following in the body :
================
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/haringey-freecycle/messages
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/haringey-freecycle/join
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/enfieldfreegle/join
================
then it bounces with
552 BuQ01i00220dMyk01uQ1XJ message rejected due to spam or virus. If you believe this is in error please login to your portal or contact your ISP support team.

Re: getting a few Undeliverable responses

IF that is saying error #552, according to http://www.sorkincomputer.net/SMTP%20errors.htm
SMTP error - "522 The recipient has exceeded their mailbox limit."

well it's not that as it only happens when i send that exact body in the mail
if i remove one of the links or send most other things it goes ok
so clearly whatever software plusnet is using for the smtp server is pants ( technically speaking )
can someone from plusnet investigate
i'd also like to have an explanation...

Re: getting a few Undeliverable responses

I can confirm that this is behaving exactly as bluewhale says. I created a test message to myself where the body contained:
================
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/haringey-freecycle/messages
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/haringey-freecycle/join
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/enfieldfreegle/join
================

and it bounced. It is not anything to do with the recipient mailbox as I've since sent a different message to the same mailbox with no problems.

no this is the plusnet SMTP server interfering with what i am sending
i would like to know why anti spam software is being run against emails i am sending, really should be necessary IMHO

Re: getting a few Undeliverable responses

I think the point of scanning the outgoing mail is to stop the Plusnet servers getting a bad reputation and ending up on various blacklists with the consequence that some ISP's and organisations who rely on the lists more than is intended block all mail from Plusnet until the servers are removed from the list.
That's fine, but I'm sure the objective could be achieved with far less aggressive settings than appear to be in place at present.

Please explain why you think changing the spam settings for incoming mail is going to affect outgoing mail!

@jelv, from Anti Virus Filtering

Would you like us to scan your emails for viruses?

It does not say for incoming only, so I'm guessing it affects outgoing mail as well, but I could be wrong.

7. Does the Anti Virus Filter scan incoming and outgoing mail?
No, the Anti Virus Filter only covers incoming email sent to your address.
