Broadband - Your Questions Answered

2007 at 16:55 by Chris Cotterill

Why should I upgrade?

Broadband is much faster (’up to’ 8Mb) so you will be able to complete all your online tasks much quicker. You will also be able to take advantage of advanced Internet services which either do not work or do not perform well on a dial-up connection.

Another major advantage is that you can be on the phone and connected to the Internet at the same time with broadband.

You’d be surprised how little broadband costs too, you can get a broadband package from PlusNet starting at £9.99, which is cheaper than a lot of our dial-up packages.

What will I need?

You will need a broadband modem/router and a BT phone line. You can order your modem/router from us when placing the order for your broadband service.

How long will it take?

Broadband activation takes 7-10 working days, however you’ll still be able to use your dial- up service right up until your broadband is activated.

Is broadband really ‘always on’?

Yes, your broadband connection will be available constantly, however you do not need to remain connected 24/7 if you do not wish to do so. Your broadband hardware can be configured to disconnect when idle, or you can turn it off when not needed.

Is broadband more of a security risk?

No. Broadband is actually more secure than dial-up, due to the technologies available. You can set up your hardware to be as restrictive as you like, full instructions will be available on our site for your hardware, or our support team will be happy to help if you get stuck!

Is the setup complicated?

No. All you will need to do is connect your modem/router to your phone line and to your computer(s). We’ll send you some microfilters which allow you to use the phone and Internet at the same time. Setup guides are sent with our hardware, which give clear and simple instructions on how to set everything up. You can also find setup guides for all PlusNet supplied hardware on our website.

Upgrade now to PlusNet broadband!

If you have any more questions please check out our support pages or contact the support team who will be happy to help.
