Rows of thousands are bearing down on me...

July 27th, 2009 at 11:52 by Carl Lockley

Hello again, it’s been a while. Since I last blogged, I have got married and been on honeymoon, and bought a Wii. I know, I’m weak, but it was for the little one, and it means my Xbox pads are no longer getting battered due to the frustrations of a 6 year old, just the frustrations of a 29 year old. More…

Love thy neighbour, or catch 'em with a headshot?

Working for Plusnet, there can be a lot of competition in the workplace, who takes the most calls, who has the best quality of service (where our calls and tickets are checked to make sure that they are as good as they should be), and competition is good, right? It actively pushes us to ensure that we are doing the best job that we can, and as a result you guys reap the benefits by having a support team that are good at what they do and constantly strive to be better. I have always been competitive, and this doesn’t end at work. At home, my better half and I like to play Bomberman on Xbox Live Arcade. Now I am a gentleman, but let my good lady beat me? I don’t think so :) More…

To Wii or not to Wii....

February 5th, 2009 at 19:19 by Carl Lockley

In a previous post, I stated that us gamers haven’t had it as good for years, with several months of AAA games coming out, and a healthy line up for 2009. Gaming is one of the few entertainment mediums that is holding its own in this credit crunch, and we have some amazing machines to play them on. The problem is, which is the one to go for? More…

Christmas, a time for all gamers!

January 2nd, 2009 at 12:32 by Carl Lockley

Hello all, and welcome to my first gaming blog.

For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Carl and I work in Plusnet’s Technical Support team.  Oh, and I like games.  I have played since I was 4, and that was, well, that was a long time ago :P

Now I could wax lyrical about all of the games that I have played, or I can look forwards to the games that we will all be playing in the near future.  And because listening (or reading) about games that other people have loved is probably not that interesting, I shall discuss games to come.

Wii vs XBox 360 - sometimes the stats lie.

July 24th, 2007 at 12:26 by Dean

The latest figures out on the sales of Xbox & Wii games consoles, show the two platforms nearly neck and neck at 9.4m for the Wii and 10.1m for the XBox. What’s interesting about these numbers though is that it took Nintendo 1/2 of the time to get there than Microsoft.

Where will it end up though? Industry experts are expecting the Wii to overtake the XBox around Christmas time. But does it really matter? After all, competition is good for eveyone (especially the consumer – Sony have started to drop the price of their PS3 due to “poor” sales figures)

The Wii has caught the imagination of kids (big and small alike), the XBox & PS3 are for the “serious” gamer.

Personally, I think they all have their place and they will do just fine in their own way – but it will create a whole host of problems going forward with regard to the “living room” entertainment system if they all don’t start to adopt more open platforms to allow content to get to and from the devices more easily. For example, I don’t want to be locked into one proprietary device to view my photo’s / video’s over the network onto my screen.

Me, I’m not a gamer (by any stretch of the imagination) but I bought the Wii because its great when you have 3 young children in the house on a rainy day. All they have to do now is make Zelda easier for me :-)

regards
Dean
