Heights of Sheffield tackled for charity

Plusnet staff at charity abseil

You know how we like to do our bit for charity, well we’ve gone all ‘extreme sports’ and have managed to raise over £2000 through an abseil down Plusnet Towers!

Staff from Plusnet defied gravity to complete a 34 metre abseil down the side of their workplace, The Balance, in Sheffield recently.

Around 35 Plusnet abseilers completed the jaw-dropping descent, along with some of our neighbours, Hill Dickinson Solicitors, all in aid of local good causes: Roundabout and St Luke’s Hospice.

Plusnet has worked alongside Roundabout since 2012 to help it raise funds for its hostel renovation appeal.

Ben Keegan, CEO of Roundabout, had this to say:

“Plusnet and Hill Dickinson make perfect partners, not only are they neighbours but they have come together with the sole aim of arranging this fabulous event to raise funds for Roundabout.

“The money will go a long way in helping Roundabout to support its young people so that they can start out on a positive path of life that so many of us take for granted.”

Chloe Snelson, Chair of Plusnet’s Charity Committee and first-time abseiler, added:

“Raising funds for Roundabout means such a lot to Plusnet and it’s great to see so many of our staff complete the abseil and support their colleagues and neighbours.”

Roundabout has recently reopened its hostel facilities following an extensive programme of renovation works over the past six months which has seen the creation of extra bed spaces through a move into the attic space of the building. The changes have also meant that Roundabout now has a fit for purpose training room and that all their bedrooms are now single and en-suite – making the hostel feel more homely and comfortable for the young people living there.

The abseil provided the chance for some of Hill Dickinson’s staff to raised cash for their own chosen charity of the year, St Luke’s, who will soon receive the £250 raised for them via the event.

The Abseil was organised as a partnership between Plusnet, Hill Dickinson, The Black Eye Project, Acclimbatize and Roundabout and was kindly funded by Workman LLP, landlords of The Balance.
