Plusnet helps local people to get online...

Plusnet volunteers with Jennifer Ellison at the Get online 2012 event in Sheffield An army of Plusnet’s IT wizzes shared their wisdom recently at an event to get more people on-line.

The event, which took place at Sheffield Town Hall, was part of Get Online Week, a national event set up by UK online centres who aim to encourage more people to find a bigger life online.

What's it all about?

There are 8 million people in the UK who don’t use the Internet, meaning they're missing out on all sorts of benefits and conveniences as a result. UK online centres are helping to change this via a network of 3,800 community based UK online centres across the country, running marketing campaigns, delivering training and administering grant funding to help more people make the most of online life.

Plusnet make online easy!

A group of knowledgeable Plusnetters helped out today by getting locals up and running on the internet. Our volunteers shared tips on online shopping, gave advice on how to stay in touch with friends and family via email and social networks, and answered various IT and internet related questions. Jennifer Ellison, who has been helping Plusnet promote the various uses of the internet this year, assisted the deputy leader of the council, Harry Harpham, in picking the prize draw winners. Jennifer said:

“It’s really great to see so many people here at Sheffield’s Get Online Week event. I’ve picked up some really handy hints from Plusnet’s volunteers on how I can get more from the web and it’s clear that local people have got a lot out of the event too.”
