End of Day: 6th of January

January 6th, 2009 at 18:17 by Kelly Dorset

Hello! How are you all coping with the being back at work/school/university thing? It looks like we are finally back in the swing of it with having a good end of day today, rather than our last minute scrabble last night.

First up, Catherine from QA

That hacking cough you can hear is, unfortunately, the sound of QA being ill. It seems several of us had the flu bug or one of the variants which was going around over Christmas. However, we do actually have an (almost) full team, and it’s a good thing as we are as ever busy as a set of particularly industrious beavers. Plenty of projects on the go but once again it’s all hush hush and on the QT, so I’ll leave it to your imagination for now :-) One thing I can tell you about is a new approach in how we test problems. Matt 2 has been working with Arek, one of our Polish team, to batch up some of the higher priority problems so they can be rolled to our test environment and tested together. If this approach works, it will mean we can roll more problem fixes more quickly and provide a better service to you, our lovely customers :-)

In a slight tangent, you may have heard the folks in Comms mention an online music service called Spotify. I’ve been trying it for myself over the last couple of days and I think it’s got potential but isn’t quite there yet. I’ll keep a keen eye (or should that be ear) on it, though, certainly.

I’m quite enjoying the Spotify myself. Message me via the Forums if you want an invite as I’ve got 3 codes left.

Next up, James from the CSC

Happy New Year everyone albeit rather belatedly but this is my 1st chance this year to pass on the goodwill.

Are we allowed to say the busy word? Well if we are the CSC has been just that today, following on from a very hectic Monday too. An interesting point to raise for everyone to see on CSC performance is that yesterday we received 400 more calls than the equivalent Monday last year yet even with such a huge rise in volume the longest wait yesterday was considerably under half of what it was last year. Don’t worry we aren’t resting on our laurels however as even yesterdays figures we can look to improve on and are working hard to do just that for you.

If you have sent in a letter to us over the Festive period we may not have replied quite as quick as you would like due to the postal deliveries over the past week and we received a big sack today so the chaps here will be working hard to reply to you asap, however we would encourage you all to use our contact system via help.plus.net so the message is given to us straight away and the response will be much quicker than via snail mail. You will also see all of our tremendous help and support pages too where quite a lot of questions can be answered saving you the time of contacting us.

If you traditionally call or write to us, check out our online ticket system at help.plus.net as it really is the easiest way to contact us for the majority of issues.

We have Team B on Support tonight so if you do contact them wish them a Happy New Year, although I think most of them are glad to be in the warm office rather than heading home in the big chill. However I’m off to buy some South African Rand tonight as I’m off to visit our colleagues in Durban tomorrow for the next month so gloves and scarves will be swapped for shorts and sun-tan lotion – lucky me.

:O No fair!

Comms James next:

It’s been decidedly quiet in Comms today, which can only mean that Chris hasn’t been in, sadly hit by the dreaded lurgy. It’s actually just been Bob, Matt and I, with Mand working from home.

I’ve been working almost exclusively on our forums whilst chasing a couple of other things throughout the day. Matt been looking at some problems, change controls and some other home phone type things. Bob’s been doing his usual tricks of ‘Port, email and Network change controls.

That’s all from us today. As for a random link, why not have a read of our very own Dans’ predictions for the year ahead. He is a very random person. Also quite small.

You know? One of those days I’m sure Dan is going to flip out like a Ninja at one of those comments….

Goodnight!

Kelly
