Projector on a phone sounds good, will it project a 3d image of the person you are talking to? I guess not. Will it project your contact list so you can pass on a phone number without having to hang up and access the address book seperately. I guess not. I suppose it will be yet another standalone app that has its own button, and only really serves to light up your groin unepectedly as you're driving home. SAY COMMAND!

@Graham, http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/07/10/japan_to_fund_oled_rnd/ suggests they're working 40" today, but 27" screens aren't far away - see http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?newsid=109194

It's expensive to build at the moment but it will get cheaper - and bigger :-)

Fascinating article - thanks! The only one I don't agree with is hydro-cars. The problem is that creating the hydrogen requires energy and this must be generated somehow. Most power stations only add to global warming, so it's not a great solution. Then every petrol station would need to be converted to hydro.

The only solution is more energy efficient cars, and less car use - hence better public transport. But since, in my area, it costs me more to buy a ticket on First bus than to drive into the city and park for 5 hours, it's unlikely to happen.

Re: OLED screens, are these really big enough to go up to TV size (32 inch, say?)

Re mobile phones becoming more than telephones, I think that the gradual creep of non-telephony features into what we currently call a mobile phone is actually changing our definition of a phone.

If I say, "I've lost my phone" or "I'm getting a new phone" do you picture a mobile phone or a landline phone? Right, so the word "phone" has already become synonymous with "mobile phone". Now consider these statements: "I'll check the football scores on my phone", "I've got the photos on my phone", "My phone battery was low so I couldn't listen to music". To me, there is no apparent contradiction in using a phone for more than talking. When you picture a phone you may be picturing a multi-function wirelessly networked computer but you still call it a phone. I don't think that's about to change.

> I also think the Wii console will finally be seen for what it is, a fad.

Oooh, I'm not sure I agree with you on that one, especially considering my Mother now has a Wii and loves it. The Wii is expanding the Games Console market in a way the XBOX and PS3 just isn't!

I think the Sony PS3 will finally take a hold, it will catch the Xbox360 (5m behind currently). I also think the Wii console will finally be seen for what it is, a fad.
