Tomorrow is my last day at Plusnet. I’ve been here just over two years in which time I have morphed from a web designer/developer into a usability/user experience evangelist! I’ve really enjoyed my time here, working with great people to server great customers.

Plusnet adds more central capacity.

January 29th, 2009 at 15:32 by Bob Pullen

For the second time in less than a week, we’re pleased to announce that have activated another 155Mbps segment of central bandwidth. This segment is part of a brand new 622Mbps central pipe we’ve had installed (imaginatively titled ‘Plusnet 10′). Customers connecting to the new pipe will access the Internet through a new gateway known as pcl-ag03.

We’ve activated this extra capacity in line with the current budget and our projected growth in customer numbers.

When new capacity is added to the network, it takes time for the network to balance and for a representative proportion of the customer base to connect to the new segment. In order to speed up this process and help balance the platform to give the most benefit to customers, it may be necessary for us to temporarily disconnect a number of customers from the network. Should we take the decision to do this we will announce further details as a planned maintenance notice otherwise it may take up to a week for the new segment to be balanced.

We frequently review our plans for the purchase of additional capacity and will continue to do this based on projected customer numbers.

Kind Regards,

Bob Pullen

So, how many of you lot noticed we had a little outage today? Not too many I hope, but as a result we’ve had a couple of people scurrying around and testing things to make sure all is ok.

They don't make 'em like they used to....

January 24th, 2009 at 21:47 by Carl Lockley

For those who know me, I turned 29 recently.  That means that I have been playing computer games for 25 years.  Admittedly, I may not have been very good, but I was playing!  People like to think that, with age, their skills grow.  Their reflexes sharpen, and their tactics become more, errrr….. tactical.  You also look back at the games that you played as a kid- BombJack, Donkey Kong, Wonderboy and so on and think how primitive they look compared to today’s ultra-realistic, photomapped 3D games.  You usually had your joystick and one or two buttons.   There was none of this 3D nonsense, and the Playstation was years away.

Plusnet increases central capacity

January 22nd, 2009 at 21:05 by Bob Pullen

We have just activated an additional 155Mbps segment of central bandwidth. Customers connecting to the new segment will be terminated on the gateway pcl-ag02.

The new capacity has been activated in line with the current budget and projected growth in customer numbers.

When new capacity is added, it takes time for the network to balance and for a representative proportion of the customer base to connect to the new segment.
