Kelly just initiated a discussion round the desk as to the origin of ‘Bah, Humbug’ and what Ebenezer Scrooge meant by it in “A Christmas Carol”. According to the ever reliable source, Wikipedia, Humbug is described as a Hoax or a Jest, and Scrooge meant that Christmas was a fraud. This then prompted a discussion on which version of “A Christmas Carol” was best… You’d think we’d have something more meaningful to be doing, wouldn’t you?
Anyway, let’s hope some other departments have, or this could be a bit boring…
First up, Clinton from the Provisioning team:
Hi guys, Clinton here, second post from Provisioning SA. I’m actually D.O.A for Rohan Singh and taken over his duties as a Team Leader for the Provisioning Department.
What can I say, today has been a challenging day for the Provisioning agents as we started of with a few high pools, namely; Phone Provisioning, Order Progress, Line Checker, but we with the help of our fellow agents here from the Technical Support, Customer Services and Sheffield, our pools are looking quite good and under control.
This month has been challenging due to the festive period and alot of customers wanting their broadband and telephone orders completed before the start of the festive period. Under the circumstances, I think that the Provisioning agents have done extremely well in maintaining the pools and working under so much pressure. I think that the rewards for working so hard will pay off with most of our customers extremely happy that they have broadband and talk service working in time for the festive season.
We will be entering the new year with all staff focused and ready to take on tasks and challenges within the Provisioning Department.
Web Dev have finished our invasion of the Development department, determined to make sure that it is no longer like a cross between a library and a sauna in the room
We moved the rest of the computers for our absent colleagues down today, and got our testing pod set up (basically, our machine for testing on Mac OS and Safari) as well as making sure that our normal computers could connect to the internet and enable us to work. Around this, we have random discussions, as talked about above, and also been continuing to work on the Business Product Refresh.
Bob brings up the rear:
w00t! Today’s my last day in the office between now and Christmas. It’s been me, Matt and Mand as James and Chris have already broken up for the Christmas festivities.
I’ve decided that tonight’s going to be a relaxed one so I can prepare myself for tomorrow’s inevitable frivolity!
Despite the feeeling that people are winding down for the break we’ve had plenty to be getting on with. I’ve been chasing up a few outstanding problems, updating our Service Status feed, reviewing networks change controls and popping into the forums where time has allowed. Mand’s been working on problems, change controls and one of our recent recontracting offers whilst Matt’s been manning the forums and keeping on top of some of his personal objectives.
So as not to let the masses down, here’s a further contribution to the 12 days of Commsmas:
On the first day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me A big hot mug of tea.
On the second day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to Bob, two tins of spam.
On the third day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to Chris, three days off.
On the fourth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to us, four “Comms is teh r0×0rz” mugs.
On the fifth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to you, 5 Comms peeps.
On the sixth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to you, the 6th line of this song.
On the seventh day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me seven Pac-Man Christmas treeeees
On the eight day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me eight tasty chocs…
On the ninth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me… nine random stumbles
On the tenth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me… ten urban legends
On the eleventh day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me… a disappointed boy on santa’s knee – LinkFor those who won’t hear from me between now and Christmas, then I hope you have a fantastic holiday and santa brings you everything you’re hoping for!
This is my last EOD this side of 2009 due to holidays and the EODs taking a break after tomorrow night until January 5th, as during the festive period theres vastly reduced staffing due to holidays etc… so a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
Colin
Scrooged with Bill Murray is the best Christmas Carol ever, the song at the end just tops off the film perfectly.
