End of Day - 22nd December

December 22nd, 2008 at 18:23 by Dave Tomlinson

Well Christmas week is here, doesn’t really feel like it though. The past few weeks have flown by but time seems to do that these days. When you were 5 years old a year was 20% of your life, now at age 33 a year is less than 3%.

Before I start lamenting the passage of time, let’s get on with the End of Day. Just two submissions today, Web Dev and Development are busy with a big desk move so that leaves us a couple of posts down, but fear not we have Comms ans CSC for you.

And first it’s Matt from Comms:

Well we’re two men down again today so it’s been a fun one here on the Comms desk. Nonetheless we’ve all been filling in – picking up problems, posting in forums, offering help to our support agents and all the usual jive. I’ve also been writing up the process we go through to get the newsletter written, Bob has been picking up on all things ‘Port related and Chris has been stabbing himself in the finger to alleviate a small wound that’s gone a bit manky. Bet you’re glad you know that. Mand and James unfortunately are not well, so please send your best wishes to them – nice one, thank you.

So without further ado, here is the next couple of lines of the 12 days of Commsmas:

On the first day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me A big hot mug of tea.
On the second day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to Bob, two tins of spam.
On the third day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to Chris, three days off.
On the fourth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to us, four “Comms is teh r0×0rz” mugs.
On the fifth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to you, 5 Comms peeps.
On the sixth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to you, the 6th line of this song.
On the seventh day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me seven Pac-Man Christmas treeeees
On the eight day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me eight tasty chocs…
On the ninth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me… nine random stumbles
On the tenth day of Commsmas the Comms Team gave to me… ten urban legends

Yeah, notice how when it comes round to me all of a sudden we have items that actually fit with the rhythm of the song. Woo!

See you tomorrow guys. Are you getting excited yet?

Err.. no :) But thanks Matt and we switch over to Adheel from CSC:

Hey readers, only a couple of days left before Christmas, have you got all the pressies bought and wrapped yet?

If not, shame on you leaving it so late! :-p

Anyway’s here is the Top 5 reasons for calls coming into the CSC today:

1) Provisioning Updates – A lot of calls from customers checking their activation date or supplying new information on transferring their broadband service (moving house in December, yikes!)
If you’re planning to move house soon, you can retain you Plusnet account and move with minimal delay. The help and support guide here and associated links cover this process in more detail.

We’ve also had a number of calls from customers looking to move to Plusnet and wanting details on our packages which is always good stuff!

2) Router Set-ups – If you’re a regular reader of our community end of day blog, you’re probably aware by now a large number of calls into the CSC are for help on setting up a router. Of course the majority of these calls are from new customers who don’t have Internet access but if you’re ever stuck these help guides may prove useful and save you some time in having to call in.

3) Fault Updates – Also had some customers calling in to update us on their broadband fault and normally a call where another router or test has been tried and determining whether this has made a difference to a connection issue or not.

4) New Faults – These calls are the first time a customer is calling in to report a broadband fault and normally involve running some diagnostics such as moving and testing the router at the master phone socket or trying another microfilter/router where possible.

5) E-mail Set-up – And like the calls coming in for advice on setting up a router we also get a number of calls from customers wanting help or the settings for a email client and being advised accordingly.
Another useful link is this one which goes through these step by step, why don’t you have a look and tell us how these can be improved?

So that’s it from me, I’m off home soon and then back in not only Christmas Eve and Day but also Boxing Day as well, so don’t forget we are always here 24/7 in the CSC!

(I personally don’t work 24 hour shifts but there is always someone here if you catch my draft!)

And that’s all for today, with Web Dev relocating I must now remember to feed our fish, or at the very least find someone to delegate the task to, especially over Christmas.

We’ll all be back tomorrow, have a good evening everyone.
