End of Day: 9th December

December 9th, 2008 at 18:23 by Peter Jackson

Despite Kelly’s missive in yesterday’s bulletin about there being a distinct lack of content being forwarded to the EOD offices here at Plusnet Towers, yet again (I’m sorry to have to report) we have had a bit of a poor turnout.

We have at least some who care for you enough to write dear reader and some good news.  Today marks the day we completed our move from Postini to Ironport.  The last remaining customers moved over to Ironport earlier today. I think it’s fair to say that we’re very pleased with how efficiently this been done and credit is due to a core team of our networks and database admins who have worked very hard getting us all moved across so smoothly.

Here’s Heather from Customer Services:

‘Cancellations’ is relatively calm today which is always a great sign for the company. We’ve got the Xmas decorations up and everyone’s looking forward to the festivities (well I am anyway…)

Laura C has joined us from Sales and is trying her hand on the Cancellations team today. I must say she is doing a sterling job as always. Adam has been working hard on new in-house tool that will help us to work even more efficiently and give our customers the best deals possible. I’ve been able to spend some of my day helping our friends across the waves with some provisioning work.

We’ve got the lovely Darren looking after us this week whilst our Team Leader is enjoying a long overdue break in the Big Apple. He’s keeping us in line and doing a great job as per usual. He’s bought the team some biscuits so we’re happy!

And err.. me with the Web Development happenings of the day:

We’ve had Tam with us today.. he tells me that he has been looking at the speedchecker at mybroadbandspeed.co.uk making sure that our testing platform can ‘see’ it (he concedes this is a bit geeky and not the most exciting thing to be reporting but there we are he says).

Mark has been working on business products and mourning the sad loss of Oliver Postgate (me too – Pogle Ed).  Nick has been working on the business products too and also some VAT content stuff left over from last week.  Andy has been problem fixing with Jonathan.

James has been very busy indeed, working on the live search functionality for Help Assistant that I demonstrated earlier this year at the open day.  It’s been a long time coming but made it to our beta today ready for testing tomorrow. Fingers, as they say, are crossed.

I’m not sure what Colin’s been doing but whatever it was it was taking some concentration by the looks of it.

Jonny and the design crew have been mainly working on ‘stuff’.. thanks Jonny very informative.

And on that note it’s time to wrap it up for another day.  CSC tells me that they’re busy helping customers and can they leave it half an hour?.. No you can’t.

See you all tomorrow.  Drive carefully.
