End of Day - 4th December

Well it's my end of week as I'm having a long weekend so I'm here on a Thursday to do the End of Day. I have been thinking about all manner of ideas of what I could talk about today - beer over IP, the weather, six-dimensional space time, 21CN, the interest rate drop, cheese but it's getting rather late and I want to head home and watch The Daily Show so my fundamental theorem of temporal mechanics can wait for another day I think. The big question though is will it snow tonight, forecast seems to suggest not, but you never know. But enough of me, I'm sure you want to hear what's been going on round the towers. First today is Mand from the Comms Team:

Evening all,

The team have kindly 'nominated' me for the EOD for today, I suppose it's my fault for only working a three day week this week.

Bob has spent today working on 'Port (Ironport to everyone else). This has included looking at some problems and writing some comms to go out next week.

James has been manning the forums and looking at a couple of particularly tricky faults. He's also taken to wearing his scarf permanently which rather worryingly makes me think of Rupert the Bear (Ed: does he have his heat lamp too?).

Chris has been working in the forums and sorting his personal tasks out. He's also been complaining about our big box of nostalgia which should have arrived today but didn't. I have a feeling it'll be a sugary Friday on the Comms desk, which should make things interesting, given how Chris normally behaves when he's had too much sugar or caffeine.

Matt and I have been working on our personal tasks and some CSC training, and have been helping our colleagues in QA this afternoon with some problem testing. Matt also managed to cover his lunch in Coca-Cola, much to the amusement of the rest of the team.

As is the tradition, we'll finish with a random link. Given that it's December here's a seasonal one.

Have a good 'un.

Mand

Next is Russell from Networks:

Busy beavers in networks have been up to the following:

Josh Berry: Working on ironport. Sarah Routledge: Telewest IVR and sunmxcore migrations. Denis Andrianov: Working on configurations for the new central pipe. Dan Payne: Network tickets. Richard Pearce: Working on internal email system and improving its documentation. Geoff Mitchell: Assisting the Ops team in trying to find a solution to the underlying LDAP issues. Matt Roebuck: Problems. Russ Martin: Platform monitoring and spam clean up.

That's all from the legends up here. G'night

And last for today it's Catherine from QA:

In today's surreality report I can confirm that there is *not* a skunk under my desk and Rowan might smell like veal, but doesn't. Gary became as confused as a honeybadger and Bill had to help him out. Matt 2 stuck a phone to his head with a rubber band and leaned on a biscuit tin. Matt 3 (yes! from comms!) helped us with some testing and thus prevented me from being torn limb from limb by an angry Polish woman. Mand also did some awesome testing work so thanks to her too. Nigel buried his head in some of these problems which have been creeping out of the wood work before the Xmas code freeze, helping Matt 1. Meanwhile, Gary ate some Smarties. Oh no, sorry, he worked on some Smarty templates (the templates which help us send emails and keep the portals looking good). Finally, Gavin has been working with our staging environment, working with our developers and telling us about his dog. Awww. See you tomorrow.

Also, Bill wears a cat on his head when riding his bike. (Allegedly.)

Well, after all that I'm off to do my Christmas shopping tomorrow. If it doesn't snow then I'll see what's on offer at Meadowhall, if it does, staying home and using the Interweb sounds like the best plan. Mind you I'm sure that Saturday afternoon will also mean online shopping either way as I won't find what I want. Have asked for suggestions and so far all I've got from my mum is that my dad wants a book but she can't remember what it's called.... Well at least I know I need to go to a bookshop. Ah well have fun everyone and most of us will be back tomorrow.
